In all ages, humans have been plagued by various diseases. Black death, Leprosy, SARS, H1N1 and covid-19 are all diseases which cause a huge effect to the people, and it took away people’s lives. These diseases appear in different times and in different places. For example, in the 1300s, a deadly disease called Black Death almost killed 1/3 people in Europe. In the 14th century, medicine was not developed, so the disease was not immediately cured in time. But after six hundred and seventy - one years after the Black Death ended, another virus that strikes the globe, Coronavirus, spreads all around the whole world at a short time, causing almost seven million people to die. After hundreds of years of medical development, human’s medical care has already increased dramatically, but the antidote of Coronavirus still hasn’t been developed yet. And it causes some people to lose their trust in medical science nowadays.
The diseases have different symptoms and causes, but without exception, they all cause deaths and pain to people. Black Death is a terrible disease caused by rodents such as rats. When they contact humans, fleas carry the virus to humans when they bite them. The symptoms included fever, exhaustion, and infections of the blood and lungs. The patients’ skin will get into black after they are infected with Black Death. It lasted for six years, and took away more than twenty - five million lives. The virus who had just appeared three years ago, Coronavirus (covid 19), had taken always almost seven million people’s death, this virus has not been eliminated yet, and it spreads out extremely fast. It is a respiratory disease, so the symptoms are coughing, fever and illness, difficulties in breathing, and loss of sense of taste and smell. Disappointingly, the cause of Coronavirus still hasn’t been found out yet, and there are opinions vary over why it has emerged.
Comparing those two deadly diseases, they both have extremely high mortality rates, and finding the way to eliminate the virus were both problematic. Black Death appeared in the 14th century, when medical science has not developed yet. So, some doctors think that cutting the skin and letting the blood out, can discharge the unclean matter out of their body, and they keep smearing things onto the skin. A little number of countries blocked the virus by lockdown. As medical conditions improved, the Black Death slowly eased, but it still exists. Nowadays, medical science has improved a lot, the experts and specialists developed the vaccine against Coronavirus. And there are countries such as China, who stuck to the lockdown method to ease the spread of the virus. But actually, the vaccine will cause an untoward effect for people. Many people around the world said they have gotten headaches after they were vaccinated. Even though medical science is already advanced, the solution of dispelling Covid 19 hasn't been found yet.
Humans have advanced medical science technology nowadays, but there is currently no way to eliminate some kinds of diseases in humans. For example, Ebola is one kind of disease with no antidote, and it is still active in places of Africa. According to the internet, from 2014 to 2016, there were a total of 28, 616 cases of Ebola virus. This virus originated from bats. According to the World Health Organization, the overall fatality rate of Ebola virus is around 67%, which is an extremely high rate. Until now, it is still causing people to die, and the Medical Scientists couldn’t make the vaccine to cure Ebola completely, so is CoronaVirus. Humans were afraid of deaths, pain and disease. And the medical scientists have lost their trust from the citizens and patients who confirmed the virus. In our stereotype, the medical doctors should be able to develop the virus and develop the vaccine. Even though some distinguished doctors such as Dr. Jonas Salk who invented the vaccine for polio, humans were not fully able to handle some diseases that cause high lethality.
In conclusion, we cannot fully rely on the medical science nowadays. Humans have been plagued by various diseases, which causes a huge effect to the people, and it took away people’s lives. After hundreds of years of medical development, human’s medical care has already increased dramatically, but the antidote of Coronavirus still hasn’t been developed yet. And it causes some people losing their trust on the medical science nowadays. The diseases have different symptoms and causes, but without exception, they all causes deaths and pain to people. Comparing the deadly diseases, they both have extremely high mortality rates, and finding the way to eliminate the virus were both problematic. Humans have an advanced medical science technology nowadays, but there is currently no way to eliminate some kinds of diseases in humans. All the humans are willing to see the medical science to keep improving, to meet the human needs and expectations.
