IS IT WORTH LEARNING SOMETHING NEW?

A QUICK NOTE ON GETTING BETTER AT DIFFICULT THINGS talks about how the author always struggled with French. He always thought he had learning problems because he was old, unlike those children who could learn fast. But he soon found out that he had no mental problems, and that the only problem he had was the ‘feeling’ of despair. When he first started French, he would mishear words, confuse tenses, and didn’t speak fluently. But in the end, his grades got higher, and with his hard work, he got a lot better at French. When we learn something new, it is always difficult, but once we show improvement and progress, we get excited and happy. And if we just stick to one topic and everything else starts learning new things, we might get a hard time catching up on others.

Learning new things not only prevents us from forgetting everything we learned before but is also healthy for us. We are all able to learn new things, but once we stop for a long time, our brains eventually stop remembering things. The story talked about how the author started having better emotions and adjusted to the French language. When learning French, he thought he had some kind of brain injury that prevented him from hearing French vowel sounds. But after he saw his improvement, he decided to take on more challenges, which is part of the development of the brain. We have to exercise our minds all the time and keep learning new skills; otherwise, our brains not only would forget everything we learned before, but also make it less responsive. Learning is a very important exercise for our brains and prevents CSVD (Cerebral Small Vessel Disease) and AD (Alzheimer’s Disease). When we stop learning, our brains could get less responsive and gets less exercise, which could greatly affect our health.

When learning new things, the improvement of society can strongly affect our improvement. If society is way ahead of us, we must try our best to get better; but that doesn’t mean that we can laze around when we are ahead. In the story, the author went to France to study French, but when he got there, the perfection of everyone else caused stress. Then, he decided to fly back to his hometown to check his brain problems. Despite his stress, the author still tried his best to catch up with everyone, and soon his grades were a lot better. When we are learning new things, all of us would have parts that we are good at and parts that we have to work on. But if we get to a part where we are the best, it doesn’t mean that we could just sit there and brag all day. Because soon, everyone else would be working on something new while we might still be two lessons behind. When working on a topic, we have to try our best until the end. If we are already at division and the others are only at addition, it doesn’t mean that we can just stop there. We have to keep going and keep up the good work. When society improves, we also have to show progress and try our best to catch up or take the lead.

When we get used to learning new things, we start avoiding negative thoughts and accepting our failures. Learning new things helps us get more and more confident, making us welcome all the good ideas and positive emotions. The story showed how the author took a big turn when mastering himself in French. After improving in French and having a better grades, he was also able to block out all the negative effects and feelings on him. When he was on his computer, the news would pop up saying how children had a learning advantage. But he didn’t care about it and completely ignored it. When he had a hard time struggling to keep up, he still reminded himself that he could do it, strengthening his confidence and good emotions. Confidence is a very important emotion in everyone’s lives, as it could help us block negative feelings from our minds and accept our failures. Our confidence helps us feel ready for life’s experiences and surprises, making us comfortable in new environments and people. It also provides more opportunities and choices for us. Learning new things makes us confident, when we believe in ourselves and decrease negative thoughts.

The story A QUICK NOTE ON GETTING BETTER AT DIFFICULT THINGS talks about how the author struggled with French, but eventually started improving and showing progress. He soon started showing more positive emotions and strengthened his learning skills. Learning new things could be difficult for us to understand and keep up with. But if we stop learning one day, the brain gets less exercise, which could greatly affect our health. It also gives a higher chance of dangerous diseases and can make us forgetful and less responsive. Our improvement and progress need to keep going until the end to catch up or take the lead among everyone else. Learning new things also makes us more confident, which helps us avoid negative thoughts, accept failures, and make us believe in ourselves. Learning new things is always very hard and we would have to go through a ton of hardships. But learning more things helps the brain develop and helps us show improvements and confidence.
