Introduction Of My Favorite Art - The Last Supper

The Last Supper, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci (15 April 1452 – 2 May 1519), is an Italian polymath of the High Renaissance who was active as a painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. His famous painting that nearly everyone knows is the Monalisa. The Last Supper is the final meal that, in the Gospel accounts, Jesus shared with his apostles in Jerusalem before his crucifixion. The Last Supper is commemorated by Christians especially on Thursday. The Last Supper provides the scriptural basis for the Eucharist, also known as "Holy Communion" or "The Lord's Supper". It is now located in Museum Cenacolo Vinciano of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. I would present my three reasons about why I like this painting.

I like the Last Supper because: First, it was painted beautifully with several details by Leonardo Da Vinci, who is my favorite artist. He was born in 15th April 1452 at (possibly Anchiano), Vinci, Republic of Florence and died 2 May 1519 Clos Lucé, Amboise, Kingdom of France at 67 years old. He was an Italian painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, theorist, sculptor, and architect. His famous paintings are: Monalisa, Last Supper, Vitruvian Man, Self Portrait, and The Virgin of the Rocks…He also was a good inventor. He invented: Ornithopters,  Helical air screw,  Parachute, Self-supporting bridge, Giant crossbow, and many more. However, not all of them had been made out today.

Second, it has great religious meaning. Before I tell you more information, we need to know the background of the Last Supper. On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, or Passover, Jesus sent two of his disciples ahead with very specific instructions regarding the preparation of the Passover meal. That evening Jesus sat down at the table with the apostles to eat his final meal before going to the cross. As they dined together, he told the twelve that one of them would soon betray him. All of his apostles questioned him. Even further down: Jesus is the head of Christian people. The head of Jewish people wanted to kill Jesus so he found Judas. In the painting (If you see closely at the 4th person’s hand counting from the left), you would see there was a little bag. The bag was filled with thirty coins that the head gave to Judas, which was extremely expensive at that time. The two religions are great competitors.

Third, it tells us that you shouldn’t be avarice and forget everything. If you liked money and forgot everything, you many be tricked by someone to do bad things. In your daily life, you shouldn’t try to get little eases, because they may be dangerous like now in our days. You should earn things by yourself and only receive things from trusted people like family members. In the background of the Last Supper, Judas, one of Jesus’ trusted apostles that Jesus chose, received the precious, expensive gold coins from another group of religious people and betrayed his master. If I were Judas, I would refuse to take the money and I would immediately go and report this urgent problem to Jesus. Never take little eases, they may be bad; you should earn them by yourself.

In conclusion, The Last Supper, painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, is about the last supper Jesus eats with his twelve apostles. One of his trusted apostles, Judas, received golden coins from Jewish people and decided to betray Jesus. I like this painting for three reasons. Firstly, it was painted by Da Vinci, who was an extremely famous artist (also my favorite artist). Secondly, it has great religious content. Christian and Jewish religion are competing against each other and Jewish Head wants to kill Jesus. Lastly, the painting reminds us about not loving money and taking little eases, otherwise you would forget everything.
