More and more teenagers are suffering from a lack of sleep, on one hand, they are used to sleeping late, on the other hand, they have to face fixed school hours. And so, being able to manage time and get enough sleep will benefit them plenty. Andrew Fuligini interviewed 419 teenagers the age span of 13- 19. Their result shows that teenagers get the best mood when sleeping up to about 8 to 10 hours each night. Rafael Peyao, a sleep doctor, notices that teenagers' internal clocks are stopping them from sleeping at the night and waking up during the day. He found out that two little amounts and too many amounts of sleep each night are both a problem, so it is best to sleep for about 9 or 10 hours each night. Rafael Peyao says that this problem occurs mostly throughout the ages of adolescents, which is the mature and young-adulthood stage of people. This is when the students get many work and tasks they have to complete, so sleeping in is very common. About 80 to 90 percent of teens do not get the correct amount of sleep each night. Teenagers need to get the right amount of sleep to have a good mood, but they first have to manage the time and their internal clocks.
Schools help teenagers get extra sleep by pulling the time when school begins later, which debates that is what they should have done. This is when they can relax for 8 to 10 hours and makes them mentally happy the next day. When they are mentally strong and positive, it improves their mood and makes it better for their parents and close ones, including themselves too. However, it is not that easy to sleep at the correct time and get a balanced amount of sleep each night. When your internal clock kicks in, it makes you go to sleep late, or even at midnight. Teenagers themselves do not know this, so most teenagers have a bad mood daily. Even so, they need good sleep, so schools have been trying to give the teens a longer time to sleep, so they stretched the start of school. This makes them have a longer sleep and better attitude in school and other areas. Also, this can avoid teenagers from falling asleep in class, and therefore not learning many things the teacher is saying. Sleeping in or in class affects learning, as well as mood. Schools will let them sleep for longer than usual time, and allow the teenagers to have a better attitude in class, too. When teenagers don’t get enough sleep, some think that some schools’ behavior to lend more time to sleep is correct.
While many people think giving teens extra time to sleep is good, others disagree. This is because they think that teens should take control over their internal clock, not let others, such as schools, take care of them for them. Teenagers should be able to control themselves, as they are young adults. They should not need schools to lend a hand, as they could do it themselves. People think that teenagers should just set an alarm clock in their minds, or real life, so they can wake up easily with no trouble. Teenagers shouldn’t need help and they should be able to wake up by themselves, if they overcome their internal clock, which holds them up and stops them from waking up in the morning, and also falling asleep at night. Teens have a strong body build and are better than younger kids. It is just up to them whether they want to wake up. It is not that they can’t wake up, it’s just that sometimes when they go through puberty, they don’t want to wake up and sleep through the day. Many teens in the world do this. However, to stay in a good mood and get knowledge, they have to wake up early, and it relies on themselves, not their school. If schools do everything for the teens, they may not learn to do things themselves, and might even become selfish when they reach adulthood. This is why some people may think that schools should not help teenagers, and let them deal with their problems. When schools help the teens, they won’t learn to cope with things by themselves and so some people debate that no help should come to the teens.
Schools either help or not, both share a suitable reason but I think that schools should help teenagers. Without their help, teenagers may have a bad mood and also may do unexpected things to themselves or other people without a good attitude. Teenagers don’t like getting out of bed or going to sleep and that is not right, but if we have to help them, it is best to do so. When schools help teenagers, it is an act of kindness to them, and that is what we want in the world after all. Of course, teenagers shouldn’t be helped with everything, but if they really can not achieve something, it is best to help them and then let them just sleep and get bad marks in school. This will maybe even lead to self-harm and something worse. We should not allow that, so in my opinion, the school’s actions of helping the teenagers are right, and we should cherish what they do to help them, even if it doesn’t work. Studies show that teenagers are much more focused and positive after having a longer time to rest and sleep, so schools have helped them after all. But I wish that teenagers could manage their own time as well, not just ignore their actions. Everyone should do something, schools should give teens extra sleep, and teenagers should cherish their time and use it wisely.
This debate wants to show that teenagers may need help from schools so they can have a good mood when they wake up, but they must not waste it. Schools are helping teenagers because over 80 percent of estimated teenagers have not got the correct amount of sleep each night. And so, the schools want to help them so they could have a longer period to sleep. This debate shows that kindness is not always needed, but it is best to give them what they would have wanted, and what you would have wanted if you were like them. Many teenagers have a lack of sleep because of their internal schedule in their mind and so helping is the best way in this case. Schools choose to help them because they want all the students to receive the same amount of knowledge they teach, so if they fall asleep in class, they won’t be able to get good grades and live a good life with a good job. Schools care about education and will help anyone that can not achieve it. Teenagers mostly have trouble with waking up, as mentioned, and they need help with planning their internal clocks as well as using them when they need to. Teenagers all have their schedule, but it needs help from others as well as us learning to control it ourselves.
