How to Prevent Habitat Destruction

As the society is developing, people have become a huge destruction to nature’s habitats. Habitat means the natural environment in which an animal or plant usually lives. Habitat destruction has many types. For example, people cutting down trees to make houses, or when people build roads to cross the road, it reduces the place of an animal or plant’s habitat. In the Amazon Rainforest where farmers burned down trees around their farm in order to have more space for farming purposes. These are the types of habitat destruction.

Natural disasters and human activities all cause so many plants and animals to be endangered. Earthquake is a kind of natural disaster, which happens when a plate scrapes, bumps or drags along another plate. A powerful earthquake can cause landslides, tsunami, floods or other catastrophic events. Plants, animals and even people can be destroyed.

Although earthquakes are a natural phenomenon, in recent years, earthquakes have been occurring with increasing frequency. Why? Scientists have discovered that human activities caused earthquakes to happen more frequently. Mining, building large dams, and fracking for oil and gas are all crucial reasons for human-induced earthquakes. For example, the Sichuan earthquake occurred by building large dams, which caused about 23% of the habitat of China’s giant pandas to be destroyed.

There are so many bad consequences of habitat destruction. For one, it negatively affects a large number of wild animal species. When the bulldozers go through woodlands to clear trees and flatten the ground, the animals have no time to adapt to such changes, so they sometimes will be killed and will be extinct. Then you will never see these kinds of species again. On the other hand, habitat destruction may also indirectly cause serious health effects for humans. If people suffer from a decline in crop yields, then they will suffer from starvation. In turn, their immune system will be weak, which may cause serious health issues since their bodies are not strong enough to fight the bacteria and viruses in their body. Habitat destruction can cause many kinds of problems, not just these examples.

If habitat destruction is such a big problem, have you ever wondered how to prevent it? Firstly, we can reduce our overall waste production to protect our natural habitat. We should try to reuse old things. For example, you could give old things to family and friends who might want to use them or you could donate it for charity. Secondly, reduce greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning from fossil to renewable energy sources. Thirdly, along with education, awareness should also be raised. Observers should report professionals by safely documenting the process of habitat destruction whenever the opportunity arises. Also, if we see someone who does irresponsible manners, we should point out to them how important it is to reduce pollution.

Imagine when you wake up one day, only to discover that everything you’ve always known has already changed. The home you’ve lived in is gone. The environment around you is polluted, many people cannot survive. All these things happen every day to animals and plants as the habitats are destroyed. Protect the habitat of animals and plants, and it is just like protecting our homes.
