How to Handle Bullies

Have you ever heard the story of The Hundred Dresses? Well, if not, then let’s give a brief summary. This book mainly talks about a girl called Wanda Petronski who was bullied because she wore the same dress everyday and because of her name. She said there were 100 dresses all lined up in her closet, but nobody believed her and kept thinking she was just bragging. Wanda couldn't resist the bullying anymore, so she moved away. So you can see how only a small bully can have a big affection for others. Now let me give the explanation of bullying.

Bullying is the use of force, coercion, hurtful teasing or threat, to abuse, aggressively dominate or intimidate. The behavior is often repeated and habitual. One essential prerequisite is the perception of an imbalance of physical or social power. Bullying can be done individually or by a group, called mobbing, in which the bully may have one or more followers who are willing to assist the primary bully. Behaviors used to assert such domination may include physical assault or coercion, verbal harassment, or threat, and such acts may be directed repeatedly toward particular targets. So now you can see why bullying is a big threat to people.

So, bullying may seem like a small thing, but it’s actually not. Let me share some comments on bullying. Firstly, I think bullying is not a crime. Bullying is just a kind of thing that somebody does to make fun of others. It is just for entertainment, and people just do this for nothing, also It doesn’t break the laws. It cannot be seen as a crime, although it hurts other’s feelings. Secondly, I believe we should stop bullying. Bullying can hurt others feelings and let others maybe be self- abasement by all the bad words and compliments. They might also feel they’re not good anymore, and their world is dark. Therefore, these are my compliments on bullying.

In my school, there’s a lot of people who’ve been bullied, so I’ve planned a three-step defense on those bad bullies. Now let’s start with the first step. In this step, I’m going to say that bullying isn’t right, because when you bully others, others may feel insulted or self-abased. If they are insulted, then it would be your fault because it’s you who bullied that student. If the bully doesn’t listen, then start with step two. In this step, I will change a little bit. I will say, if you are the one being bullied, how would you feel? Not so happy and a bit angry, right? So, that is what the person you bullied would feel. If he still seems and looks like he or she doesn't care, then we have the last step: tell the teacher! Because there’s nothing worth saying to that bully, because it’s useless. So that’s my reaction.

In conclusion, bullying can result in physical injury, social and emotional distress, self-harm, and even death. It also increases the risk for depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement, and dropping out of school. Youth who bully others are at increased risk for substance misuse, academic problems, and experiencing violence later in adolescence and adulthood. Youth who bully others and are bullied themselves suffer the most serious consequences and are at greater risk for mental health and behavioral problems. So, let’s stop bullying, and create a happy world.
