The situation before the railroad was constructed was not very good, It was actually sometimes awful. People had to travel by walking for a long distance miserably. They can also travel by boat which was a bit easier than walking but still tiring. People could also travel by horse which was still not easy. At that time it was really hard to travel because you couldn’t travel by train and all the other ways were really hard and really difficult. People didn’t travel as much as today since it was way harder to walk, use boats, or use horses than just using the train.
The Americans wanted to expand to the west because it was cheaper and because new areas, like the Oregon territory offered rich land for those who would travel there. But a problem started to form because a lot of people went to the west of America and the east would have less people. Also lots of people started to dream about being rich and earning gold. They would want to move to California for gold since there was a lot of gold there. More and more people would come just for gold and this will cause money because when people dig all of these holes it would not be good for the planet and California would lose a lot of gold.
The construction of the railroad started in 1863, and ended in 1869 which took about approximately six years to finish building this railroad which took quite a long time. There were also basically 15,000 Chinese people helping to build the railroad. Mostly Chinese people helped build this great railroad. There were a lot of people helping to build this amazing railroad. At that time the railroad cost only 1000$ but nowadays it would cost 20,000$ which is kind of way more expensive than before since it was worth much more money than before.
The consequences/ benefits of building this railroad is that it would be much easier to travel to other places. Unlike before when we had to walk, use a boat, or use a horse, we can now use the train instead and it would be faster and better. It would also be much more comfy where you can sit without needing to control anything. All you have to do is pay money and then you would be able to sit down and relax. The railroad also makes USA feel more united because now USA is connected by this amazing railroad and it will now be much easier to travel here and there.
