The first transcontinental railroad known originally as the "Pacific Railroad" was a great improvement for American society and American people for traveling from east to west and vice versa. But before that when people needed to travel in between the west and east they traveled on foot, boat and horse and as you can imagine that will be a very painful succession. It was very tiring and it will take weeks or even months to travel like that. That isn't good enough and there needs to be an even more convenient way to travel in between the east and west.
The reason that Americens wanted to expand to the west is because there are wide stretches of rich land to plant and harvest in. In addition to that people also go to the west in hopes of making a profit. The way they wanted to make a profit is to send one member of the family, most likely the father and he goes west and tries to make a profit and when he has enough money he can afford to take his family to the west too. A large contribution to this was the gold rush and people also rushed to the west to find gold and make a profit. The last major reason that made people go to the west was because the east was too crowded and they needed to go to the west because if they didn't it was like the east would explode with people.
The construction of the Pacific Railroad started in 1863 and it ended in 1869. In the six years of hard work and labor the Pacific Railroad cost around sixty million dollars but the exact cost can’t be justified because there are no reliable figures that exist so it can’t be justified. The construction of the railroad starts at both sides and they work towards each other. There are eight thousand Irish, German, and Italian immigrants who built from Omaha, Nebraska west and ten thousand chinese laborers who worked from Sacramento, California east. The two sides meet at Promontory, Utah. They completed a 1,911-mile (3,075 km) railroad in six years.
The Pacific Railroad was a great improvement for American society and American people and it allowed travel in between the east and the west conveniently. That big improvement can let people travel in between the west and east. Even more, raw materials like minerals, fruit and others can be transported to different places. It once took months for people to travel from east to west and from west to east but with the completion of the Pacific railroad. The pacific railroad also united the west and east and people can travel freely in between and the east and the west can communicate with each other.
The Pacific railroad was a huge success for the American society and American people. It also provides new chances of jobs and people could travel freely and they can meet their families and it allows new opportunities. People and other things like letters or raw materials can travel speedily and safely anywhere along the pacific railroad. People can meet new people along the way and there are chances of making new friends.
