How Compare and Contrast Reflect Mood in this Novel - Critics on The Bracelet

The writing technique of contrast and comparison can help a person to find common ground while analyzing differences and discuss them together, thus adding richer colors to the theme. When discussing the similarities, people can find the common advantages or disadvantages of the relationship between the characters in their stories; when analyzing the        differences, people can find the different positions of the characters in the stories, so as to determine which side is correct. The technique of contrast and comparison is best used for writing essays, and there is plenty of contrast and comparison between characters in a novel. There is a novel which could be an excellent instance of the writing skill compare and contrast.

Compare and Contrast perfectly shows the difference in the ups and downs of a person's life . This kind of narrative method can more clearly describe the character's personality and inner thoughts. When a person succeeds in life, he is undoubtedly happy, happy, and carefree, but when a person fails, then he will be on the contrary. ""I looked around at my empty room. The clothes that Mama always told me to hang up in the closet, the junk piled on my dresser, the old rag doll I could never bear to part with – they were all gone. There was nothing left in my room, and there was nothing left in the rest of the house. The rugs and furniture were gone, the pictures and drapes were down, and the closets and cupboards were empty. The house was like a gift box after the nice thing inside was gone; just a lot of nothingness.”This quote highlights Ruri’s life before and after the evacuation, emphasizing the loss of her home and belongings. The house, once filled with familiar and comforting items, is now devoid of everything, symbolizing the emotional emptiness and separation from her old life. The writer is able to describe the characters personality, characteristics and mental strength through compare character’s life and situation.

Compare and contrast can reflect a person’s sense of belonging to the family. When people are in extremely poor environments and conditions, their emotions are bound to be negative, but when they face their families, individuals will still show the most positive side to their families. This contrast and comparison of emotional changes reflects people value family. For example, in the novel, when Amy and her family are sent to an internment camp, she sees that their home has become empty, and the rooms that were once full of memories and warmth have become empty. But even so, Amy's mother worked hard to tidy up and try to make the new environment look like home. This shows the deep affection between Amy's family, who support each other in difficult situations and try their best to keep their lives normal and warm, even though their living environment has changed dramatically. Contrast and comparison can be appropriate to individual emotions and feelings through the family.

Comparing and contrasting people's thoughts and actions from when they are in trouble to when they get out of trouble can add depth to the novel. When an individual falls into extremely bad conditions, there will always be a turning point for him to bounce back and get out of the predicament. This turning point may be a thing, a person or a word.  When Amy's family was forcibly moved to an internment camp, she felt isolated and helpless at first, but the bracelet her friend gave her reminded her that there was love and friendship outside, and even reminded her that she might be able to reunite with her friends in the future and return to the past. life. She compared her current predicament with her past life and regained hope, which also inspired her to stay strong in difficult times. By comparing the tough times we're going through with better days from the past, we can find hope and strength in the people and memories that mean the most to us, helping us stay resilient even when things feel hard.

In conclusion, the compare-and-contrast writing style helps to show the key themes in The Bracelet, especially the themes of loss and separation, identity and cultural heritage, and hope and resilience. By comparing Emi's life before and after her family is forced into the internment camp, we can clearly see the emotional effects of losing everything she knew. This comparison also highlights how her identity and cultural roots stay strong, even in such a difficult time. Most importantly, looking at the difference between her past hope and present struggles shows how memories and connections, like the bracelet, help her stay hopeful and resilient. Overall, the compare-and-contrast technique really brings out these themes and helps us understand how people find strength in the toughest of situations.
