Racism is a huge problem throughout the world. But what is racism? Racism is discrimination toward specific ethnic groups. For example, if someone was mean towards all African American people, they’d be racist. But if someone was mean towards everybody, they’re not racist. They’re just mean. Racism is a huge problem because it makes people feel hurt, and unequal. Many people have been fighting against racism for a long time, like Jackie Robinson. Jackie was a great baseball player, and he became one despite the odds being stacked against him, through his sheer will and his skill. He changed some people’s outlook on black people when he proved that he was as good as any white player.
Racial discrimination takes many forms and impacts all aspects of our life. This affects everybody, even if they don’t know it. It is negative, and it will only make people feel bad. This is unconstitutional, because written in the Constitution is “All men are created equal.” There is no reason we should be prejudiced, because our differences are what make us unique. People were prejudiced against Jackie Robinson, and it didn’t do anything. Jackie became one of the best players of baseball, despite the discrimination. Prejudice and discrimination don’t do anything good, so why do it at all? There are many negative effects caused by prejudice, but no positive ones. Racism harms not just the one it is being subjected to, but our entire society as a whole.
Resilience is essential to success, because we keep on going despite challenges and setbacks. Almost all successful people were resilient, such as Harriet Tubman. Resilience is important in everyday life. As Wayne Gretzy said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Jackie Robinson was very resilient, and he resisted all the people who said he would never succeed, who said he wouldn’t make progress. He went on to become a pioneer in the world of black baseball. One day, maybe racism will be completely gone. That will be because of all the resilient people fighting against it. If you believe in yourself and your work, and you are willing to face hardships, then you will succeed. Being resilient can help us immensely in achieving our goal in life. It’s all about our will to continue through pain and our inner strength.
When society changes, there is often a revolution either after the change, or causing the change. Most people change things, or get changed. Think about the Civil War. The war changed the lives of millions of slaves, and changed millions of people’s outlook on slavery. Jackie Robinson changed baseball. He tried his best and worked his hardest, so no one had to face the extra challenges he had to face. He started off as one person, but he convinced so many people so that they, together, had a huge impact on the world of black sports. Eventually, every area will have an equal chance for a black or white person to be in it. People take action to fight for their beliefs, and they try to raise awareness for their cause. Change can be very hard, but the end result is usually more than worth it.
Racism is a problem prevalent in many societies, which causes lots of prejudice and makes people discriminate against other people. But since there are a lot of resilient people fighting against racism, they will eventually prevail, and racism will be minimized. This is a kind of revolution, and it will probably change society for the better. Everyone can contribute to racism, but everyone can also fight against it. Jackie Robinson was very resilient, and he fought against racism, just like other civil rights leaders such as Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King. One day, racism and the prejudice and discrimination that comes with it will be gone. We just have to hang on until it is.
