Essay on Urban Sprawl

The article Whose Habitat Is It?, talks about humans expanding Their cities and roads from the wild life. Bears, deers, alligators, and other animals are coming to the city. These animals are going into people's houses. They are invading people’s properties. So what is the problem here and what can we do about it?

This is a situation of what we call now an “Urban Sprawl”. People are building houses in Wildlife by taking away the animal’s homes. Humans are destroying animals and plants’ territories. And animals are suffering from the urban sprawl. That’s why animals are going to people’s houses.

Now we will encounter bizarre incidents that happen in our daily lives. In Margaretville, New York, a bear was on the picnic table trying to get in the kitchen window. In Big Pine Key, a Florida island, deer eat flower beds. In parts of New Jersey, black bears are getting too close to human’s properties.

The consequence is the urban sprawl upsets the animals and plants. People invade animals’ and plants’ homes by taking away their places to build cities, buildings, and roads. There is no food and water for the animals and plants. Sadly, animals and plants are going extinct because of this.  In order to survive, some animals have to get into people’s properties for food.

We can protect our land and we can make a place that can let animals live with us. For example, we can build a tunnel for the animals to let the animals cross the road with no danger of car crashing. We can raise people’s awareness on urban sprawl by bringing up projects to raise funds for protecting animals. People need to know what happens to the animals when we intend to invade their homes. The best solution is to live with nurture, we need to balance between living space and natural environment.
