Critics of The Little Prince - My Favorite Character

The Little Prince, is fable and modern classic written by French aviator and writer Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The tale tells a story of a child, the little prince, who travels through the universe while gaining wisdom and knowledge. While the aviator lands on earth, he meets a little boy from a distant planet, both stranded in the desert, looking to get home, sharing what they’ve learned about life. The little prince tells the pilot about the people he met on other asteroids or planets during his adventures. For example, he met a king, a conceited man, a tippler, a business man, and a lamp lighter. He also shared his questions. In this passage, I would discuss my favorite character in the story.

My favorite character is the Tippler for three reasons. First, I like the interesting background information of the Tippler. “Tippler” means “drunkard,” and he inhabits the third planet that the prince visits. The little prince feels really sorry for the tippler because he looks so dejected. The tippler turns out to be as silly as most grown-ups and explains with convoluted logic that he drinks to forget his shame, and that he is ashamed because he drinks. In this vicious cycle, he’s never able to get anywhere: he’s always drinking, and always miserable. The prince spends as little time with the tippler as possible. Even then, he still ends up feeling dejected and puzzled as feeling weird about the Tipplers actions.

Second, the Tippler teaches us many lessons. Firstly, the Tippler drinks a lot of wine and wants to forget it. He is sorry for himself for drinking at first. We should not get affected by the bad things like wine and cigarettes. Secondly, the Tippler drunk tons of wine as he wants to forget the fact, he has drunk wine before. Many people would think he is totally dumb as we would usually stop doing something we dislike instead of continuing to do it. We should be aware of how we are canceling our dislikes. Shortly, we should not get affected by the things which would harm us and must used the right way for specific problem.

Last, the Tippler has great significance in the story. The Tippler lives on the third planet the Little Prince visits during his adventures. Unlike the King and the Conceited Man on the previous two planets who all don’t have good manners, the Tippler is different from them. He is quiet and only likes to drink wine all day. The Little Prince feels dejected about it because the Tippler drinks wine because he wants to forget he drunk wine before. The Little Prince feels that his manners and actions are weird and didn’t stay long on the planet.

In conclusion, The Little Prince written by  Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, talks about the prince talking to an Aviator on the Earth about his adventures in space. He me the bad King, the proud Conceited Man, a greedy Business Man, and a good Lamp Lighter. He also met the Fox where it teaches him some reasons about life. My favorite character is the Tippler because I like its background information (where it talks about why he likes to drink), the themes it tells us, and finally the significance in the story.
