Critical Review of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a story telling about a person named Dr. Jekyll, who turns into his evil form, Mr. Hyde. At first, he is a kind, nice doctor, but drinks a potion to become his evil side, which is Mr. Hyde. He can only drink a potion to turn from one to another, but as the potion runs out, he finds himself turning into Mr. Hyde automatically. One day, he turns into Mr. Hyde in the daytime, and has no way to revert back. His servants are scared of hm after he murders a person and steps on a little girl, when Mr. Utterson, a detective, finds out with his friend Enfield, that he suicided and killed himself.

A mystery is a thing that takes a certain amount of intelligence and cleverness in order to solve it. It can also be a type of story where there is a case that involves a detective to solve. Mysteries are generally involving something bad, and have clues to solve it. In the story, the mystery is that Mr. Jekyll disappeared into nowhere, and Mr. Hyde is almost unable to be found. Mr. Utterson searches for why Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll have many similarities, which also causes him to be suspicious and start the search for both of them. This shows that Mr. Utterson is very clever, and can figure out mysteries intelligently. Mysteries are always hard to solve, but a detective like Mr. Utterson solved it, which also means that he is smart. Even though mysteries are hard, they can easily be solved by someone who is clever and smart. Mysteries are a type of literature that involves an unknown case.

Everybody has two parts of them, which are the good, rational side, and the evil, dark side. This can be decided by if a person makes a good choice, or a bad choice. A person is always divided between two choices, and if they make the good one, it is their good side. Mr. Jekyll has two parts, which are he and Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is evil, and a murderer, but Mr. Jekyll is kind and polite. Although Mr. Hyde tried to turn back into his good form, he could not. A person is divided, but sometimes one instinct is greater than another, which makes it chosen. There is good and evil in all men, although it may not seem obvious. There is a fight between the two choices, and evil seems better than good, even though it is wrong. A person is always divided no matter what happens to them or their way of thinking changes.

Self-control is important in any individual, and without it, somebody would be a crazy maniac. Everybody has a certain amount of self control in them, but its quantity may vary. Some people can have a lot, but others might have only a little. In the story, Mr. Hyde almost has no self-control, although he tries to. Mr. Jekyll turned into Mr. Hyde by drinking a potion, but soon, without it, he began to become a bad person. Mr. Hyde tries to stop himself from raising commotion, but fails because he has no self-control like the real Dr. Jekyll has, which ends up in him killing himself. Self control is something essential, because it controls a person's attitudes and also their behavior. Without self control, nobody would be very human-like, and probably would fail in normal tasks. Self-control is important to have.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a story of Gothic literature. Dr. Jekyll himself is divided into two parts: his evil self, Mr. Hyde, and his own form, Dr. Jekyll. This story shows the divided self, and how much self-control somebody can have. This mystery is solved, but has an ending where he suicides. A person can learn from this by seeing their own self and how they can change. This story is good because it allows a person to identify their dark side, and potentially gain more self control.
