The ozone layer is a shield to protect the Earth from the sun’s harmful rays, which is why going out in the sun feels warm to us. But pollution and other human activities are creating large holes in the ozone layer. In the story, human activity has destroyed the ozone layer, causing the sun’s rays to be harmful to the Earth. Global warming is the rising of the Earth's temperature, which affects our environment and ecosystem.
We always have a big change at one point that can permanently and greatly affect our lives. Each of our lives has a big turning point, either a major crisis or a wonderful surprise that greatly affects our future. In the story, Masha’s life enters a great change after the Earth became warmer and global warming was more serious. When she was a child, Masha would always go out to the beach with her parents and play in the sun. That time, the sun was still warm and it was safe and fun to go outside in the daylight. However, when Masha grew up and became a grandmother, the sun shot flaming, burning rays. People also had to wear special and uncomfortable equipment to go out in the sun. Masha experienced a major crisis in her life, especially because she loved and missed the warm feeling of the sun on her body. Even though going out in the sun is possible, it is now hard and uncomfortable; the environment isn’t that good either. Masha and her family only go outside in the sun once a month. Every one of us would experience a big turn at one point, which greatly changes our future. Each of us would have a turning part in our lives, affecting not only our own lives but how the social impact us.
Everyone has different attitudes and opinions on a situation; everyone has a different point of view. In the same situation, some people might have different behaviors that lead to different actions and opinions. In the story, a flashback is used to highlights the different behaviors in the past and present. In The Sand Castle, Masha and her grandchildren had very different attitudes when going out to the beach. Masha, who had experienced the warmth of the sun and the excitement of building sand castles, was very excited and happy. On the other hand, her grandchildren were bored and had no delight in walking outside in the sun. However, people’s opinions and attitudes can also change from time to time. After seeing Masha build sand castles, her grandchildren started to get interested, soon joining her. Everyone has a different point of view and their own opinions on one situation. But this behavior and attitude might change, depending on one’s growth and impact. Just like the differences between Masha and her grandchildren, everyone might have specific opinions at the start. But later, some might change their opinion, just like how Masha’s grandchildren did. Everyone’s opinions and points of view are different and special; everyone’s attitude and behavior can change from time to time.
