Critical Review of Mighty Jackie the Strike-out Queen

The book MIGHTY JACKIE THE STRIKE-OUT QUEEN, written by Marissa Moss talks about a girl named Jackie who plays in a major-league baseball game and strikes out the most famous batters including Babe Ruth. This inspiring story teaches us several great lessons. Let me tell you how I find them inspirational.

Jackie achieved her goal because she was hardworking and she had the ability not to be affected by the bias against girls playing sports. She practiced pitching until it was too cold and dark to stay outside. Her arms ached and her eyes blurred. But that didn’t stop her, she kept on practicing throwing. Her persistence in practicing baseball enabled her to play and win in a real baseball team. Furthermore, Jackie showed good resistance to the negative comments about girls playing baseball. In my opinion, resisting unfair stereotypes is even harder and more essential. Jackie made her dream come true because she was persistent in playing baseball and resistant to bias against girls.

Jackie proved that girls are as strong and powerful as boys. In other words, girls can do the same things as boys. The stereotype about girls being weaker than boys is totally false and untrue. Jackie struck out some of the best players in the New York Yankees as a girl. She showed the whole world that girls can throw balls and play baseball too. Sports are not only for boys, it is for girls too. In our school life, people also believe in a bunch of illogical stereotypes. For example, people would think that girls should be more cooperative and less troublesome than boys. And it is believed that boys are better at math and computers than girls. But the truth is that girls are the same as boys, it is totally okay if a girl is not as cooperative as many people think they should be. And many girls have shown that they are excellent at math and other STEM subjects.

Females could accomplish many achievements when they are provided with proper education and enough resources. In the past women weren’t allowed to get a good education or jobs, while most doctors, astronauts, soldiers, and scientists were all male. But over time, women started to fight courageously to earn their rights. Why can’t females get good jobs? They also have the characteristics that lead to success, like intelligence, body build, positive attitudes, and courage. Women changed the world by discovering secrets about humans and the world, like Rosalind Franklin discovered the double helix structure of DNA. Women thrive in different fields like medical, space science, mathematics and much more. Females have the same rights as males, because their abilities are not weaker than men’s, maybe even stronger. Gender equality is the most important lesson in this book.

MIGHTY JACKIE THE STRIKE-OUT QUEEN is an interesting story about a young girl named Jackie who strikes out Babe Ruth and another famous batter. Here are three things I learned from the story. Hard work and resistance are very crucial when we are trying to get success. Girls are as powerful as boys. Girls could do the same things as boys. Gender equality and women rights is an important lesson of this book. This book provides an inspirational code for life, for how we should work hard and treat each gender equally.
