Critical Review of A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an illuminating book which shows the growth and change of Ebenezer Scrooge, caused by the appearance of three holy spirits which each in turn show him a vision that prompts him to change his attitude towards life, and instead dedicate his life to generosity and kindness. These three ethereal beings are the Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present, Ghost of Christmas Yet-To-Come. The Ghost of Christmas Past shows Scrooge the orphanage where he grew up and Scrooge tears up at the thought of his childhood. The Ghost of Christmas Present brings him to a party, in which Scrooge asks to join, and has an amazing time, thanking the Cratchit’s for this amazing time, and thanking Fred, his nephew also. Finally, the Ghost of Christmas Yet-To-Come shows him a horrible funeral, where all the mourners are simply blatantly discussing what they have taken from the deceased, but Scrooge is horrified to learn that the deceased is him, and he promises to change his ways and stop being so horrid and greedy. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a book that teaches the most important lessons in life.

Greed will always be the downfall of men, while generosity can uplift you and even those around you to success, because in the world, kind people will always have someone to turn to for help, but those who are greedy will be blinded by hate in their pursuit of money. Kindness and generosity will get you many friends and advocates, while greed will make everyone avoid you and stay away. Hate can seriously impede progress and happiness. In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge had been extremely greedy and didn’t care about anything or anyone but the amount of money he had, and he thought that having more money would make him happy, but it just made him want more. But when the Spirits showed him the truth, that sharing in the Christmas spirit would make him happy, he changed and tried to be a better man. The evilness of greed is nothing compared to the power of generosity and the determination it can bring. Greed simply hides the overpowering truth of how one kind act can go a long way, and bring you many friends. Generosity has the amazing power to strengthen you and your friends, while greed only leads to becoming unloved and even hated.

The meaning of Christmas is happiness and to help share the Christmas spirit with everyone you can, while still reveling in the glory of our friends and family together. Christmas is a day of receiving and giving, to make our friends happy and they will reciprocate the love and kindness you show towards them. In A Christmas Carol, the Ghost of Christmas Present showed Scrooge how terrific and fun a simple Christmas event is, where wealth doesn’t matter and Christmas brings just another joyous memory of the jubilation you’ve experienced. Scrooge learns this, and joins in the fun with the Cratchitts. The power of Christmas is to make us happy when we are glum, as long as we have some friends to join and some family to visit. These simple actions can mean the world to another person, while making you cheerful at the thought of their joy. Our joy can make our friends and family happier simply at the thought of us. When we make others happy during Christmas, we share and empower the Christmas spirit while bringing our own joy to its apex.

Sometimes people may take a wrong turn, and it might take a while for them to get back on track, but while they still have the tiniest droplet of hope and the smallest amount of determination, they can do it. While we know right from wrong, then we can still keep on trying to become a better man, and we need to keep on trying to mature and become more decent, by staying on the right side of any conflict. In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge was shown by the Ghost of Christmas Yet-To-Come how if he continued on his current, tragic, greedy path, he would become the man who was only liked for his money, and nobody truly loved him. This was the final vision that convinced Scrooge to change his ways for the better. The journey is important, as it teaches us not to do certain actions and to be persistent, but the destination is what we journey for. Our success depends on what we have learned to achieve our goals and reach our final destination.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens has an enlightening plot and many lessons fit for a valedictorian, that can assist us through many problematic situations and confuzzling circumstances. It teaches us the importance of generosity and the lethality of greed. Each of the three Spirits taught something important and helped sway Scrooge into becoming a kinder, more generous man that spent money to help others, instead of hoarding it all up like a lonely dragon. The power of kindness is in how it allows you to gain friends easily, while greed can only keep people away from you and make you cold and lonely. The pain of a hard childhood can pierce through even the most innocent children, but a single kind act can help wash away the pain and cleanse the anger away and reveal their happiness. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an amazing book, and I highly recommend it for all ages.
