Character Analysis of Because of Winn-Dixie - Who Impresses Me Most

Gloria is an old woman, she lives in an old and eerie house surrounded by thick, unkempt vegetation. Because of the appearance of her home, she is misunderstood as a witch by neighbors in town. Winn-Dixie breaks into her yard, find she is a lonely lady who lives alone. She entertains the two strangers with a peanut butter sandwich made by herself. They become good friends and she listens patiently to Opal talks about her mother and teaches Opal how to face life with her rich life experience. At the same time. Opal and Winn-Dixie also bring warmth and joy to her. Finally, she opened the door to welcome everyone to have a concert in the yard.

Gloria impresses me most. First, she is a kind and tolerant old lady. She is full of interest and care for animals and children. In the story, she welcomes two strangers who come uninvited. Gloria respects Opal and her dog, they share their own stories, with a happy interaction. Old people cherish things around them and are always full of warmth. They appreciate the beauty of life.

Second, she is an old man who is full of wisdom and experienced a long life. When she meets problems, she handles them calmly.in the story, I am  deeply impressed by what she teaches Opal. She not only teaches her to plant trees, but also helps her know the twins' brother again, that they just don’t know how to make friends in the right way. Opal and daddy go to find Winn-dixie on the thunderstorm day. She told Opal “there is no way you can hold on to something that wants to go , you can only love what you got while you got it ”It is meaningful for the elders to guide the children with their own experience.

Third, She doesn't feel sad about others misunderstanding, instead she keeps a tolerant heart to understand other people. In the story, because Gloria lives in a jungle and she is too old to always communicate with her neighbor, twins call her “witch”. However, she doesn't care what others call her, and it doesn't affect her life. keep a positive attitude, what is more she invites twins to her concert to resolve this misunderstanding. With the help of Winn-Dixie, Opal finds that she is actually a kind lady .

Gloria is an old woman who becomes one of Opal and Winn-Dixie's closest friends.Gloria fills some of the hole that Opal's mother left behind by listening to all of Opal's stories and offering wise advice. Gloria teaches Opal important lessons about acceptance, life, and love. Which is just like she teaches me as well.
