Change the World or Myself?

The world has many problems and room for improvement, and anyone, young or old, big or small, can help change it for the better. But how much better is the question. There are many ways to change the world and help it improve, but it matters how much you improve it. Prioritizing yourself so you can gain experience to better learn how to solve the world’s issues is honorable and intelligent. Changing yourself and acknowledging what you must learn and what you need allows us to gain influence and better help the world. I believe that we should make sure that we are at our full potential before attempting to change the world, so we can influence it positively because we have a good grasp of its inner workings and a large amount of experience and knowledge.

Our actions define exactly who we are and what type of person we can eventually become. In the face of adversity, we must stand strong and learn how to improve so we can overcome obstacles. Change must first take place from within and it will create a ripple effect that helps spread into the lives of others. If that change is powerful enough, it will gather momentum to affect all of humanity. Around 41% of major changes were made by either researchers or people who have done thorough research and have experience with a certain subject, such as pollution. Simone Biles, an incredibly talented gymnast, took time off from competition because her mental health was suffering, and came back stronger than ever. Another example is J.K. Rowling, an amazing author that faced dozens of rejections after finishing her book, but she had become strong enough to keep on trying and finally get the deal she needed, eventually selling hundreds of millions of copies of her books. Changing ourselves to become stronger and more persistent allows us to eventually succeed, no matter how many failures. We learn through our actions and our failures, so that we will soon succeed.

Experience and knowledge are entwined and are both incredibly important to help change the world, and with them we can affect the world in subtle ways, improving it slowly. In order to change the world in a distinct way, we must first gain enough wisdom and learn how to influence the world with ourselves. Currently, the world isn’t in any major, pressing problems, so we have time to help prepare ourselves. Henry Ford, the man who revolutionized car production, was over 45 years old when he started his business, and it still impacts us today as a prime example of entrepreneurship. Another controversial example is Charles Darwin, who was 50 years old when he finally published his theory of evolution, changing the scientific world forever. As we age, we gain lots of valuable wisdom, and it is up to us to choose whether to impart it to the world or not. In order for us to change the world in a meaningful and positive way, it is best to change ourselves positively first.

Starting small is something that we must all remember to do, because not everything succeeds at once, and it’s easier and simpler to start with small deeds that help the world just a bit, and expand upon them. When you are inexperienced, you should simply help and try to improve the world, but when you get older is the time you should be making serious attempts to better the world. If you know you have made a small difference when you were young, you can imagine the changes you could make when you get older. The average age of a business owner is 50.3 years old, meaning that it’s around this age where you start changing more of the world and impacting more people. It’s why we have different levels of schooling, because it helps us learn patience so we can get the skills we need for life at the right times, and these skills will also help us learn how to change the world. Nicolaus Copernicus, one of the few men to defy the Church and instead believe science, was 70 when he decided to finally publish his theory of heliocentrism. It’s clear that logically, we should wait to hone our talents and clarify our thoughts before attempting to help change the world, but we can always do small actions such as picking up a piece of trash or helping someone up to improve the world in small ways.

In life, we should always make sure to reach our full potential before trying to influence the world and change something major. We need to gain experience and knowledge, which can be characterized through learning bits of wisdom and through life experiences. We can gain maturity, as shown by all the examples of people who have waited a long time and finally managed to succeed. We will become more persistent and determined, and all the while, we can help nudge the world in the right direction and help make our lives more positive. Because the world is so massive, it’s incredibly hard to change it in a perceptible way, so we need to make sure that we have the skills and the smarts to figure out a way to change it effectively.
