Camouflage vs Mimicry

Do you know what camouflage and mimicry is? Camouflage is often used for animals. You have probably heard about it. Camouflage is a way to hide or fool a predator. It can be done by changing colors, using their colors to hide in stuff that looks similar, etc. This gives a lot of difficulties for a predator to find their prey. Mimicry is a bit different. By evolution, some living beings have special forms or colors that can make their predator confused. The preys have a specific form to look like something else like a totally innocent leaf. The function is to look like a predator or a non living being. Camouflage and mimicry look similar but they aren’t the same. Camouflage is like hiding and mimicry is copying something else. This is the difference But, their purposes are the same. They both help the prey or predator to survive.

Here are the examples of camouflage. Some fishes are flat and go on the sand to do some camouflage by using their colors and the sand color. Some snakes go in the sand to hide and attack a prey when they appear. The octopus changes colors to not appear. The common frog hides in leaves that have the same colors as his. The owl has a woody color that looks like a tree part. This is also known as camouflage.

Now let's talk about mimicry. Mimicry techniques are similar to camouflage. For example, some matis can look like a leaf. Some butterflies look like leaves too. The stick insects have a good name fitting them since they look like sticks. Some fish take themselves as alga. Some butterflies look like the poisoned butterflies species. All those examples are mimicry techniques.

If I were to choose camouflage or mimicry, I think that mimicry is a better choice. If I would mimic something, that would be a rock. I almost have to be a predator. Well chickens eat small rock to help digest food. I would take mimicry for three reasons. First, I don’t need to hide anywhere so I can simply continue anything I am doing. Second, I can easily mimic a rock and third is because my predator will think I'm a friend.

In conclusion, I think that both camouflage and mimicry are still good strategies to survive. They both have the same purpose of protecting animals. They evolved from natural selection to reach the purpose of protection. They are both important. They both either help to escape or to hunt. This had made a big change to living beings' lives.
