Book Review of Thimble Summer

Thimble Summer, written by Elizabeth Enright, talks about a girl named Garnet who discovered a silver thimble. Garnet thought the sun was too hot for her to bear. She really wanted to be cooler, it was much to hot than her body could withstand. She heard thunder, ahe saw heavy clouds and she felt upset, distraught and hopeless. Garnet thought this must be the hottest day that had ever been in the world. She and her friend Citronella complained about the weather all day. They both wished they were in Alp, where the weather was never this hot. Citronella and Garnet were both not very organsided or formal girls, and liked to mess around often. One day, the girls discovered a mail for their parents, with a label of a dancing competition. THey both wished theet’s life, she desperatlyy could design dressed like that when they grown up, and compete in that competition when they are 16! Because of the weather and also because of troubles in Garnet’s life, she wanted to find something magic, something special to fit and equal her descending life. When garnet found teh silver thimble, everyone laughed at her and made fun of her. Garnet diddn;t mind, she knew the thimble was magic. It is never bad to be yourself, it might just come handy.

Growing up can show we are getting mature, and may be even getting luckier. In Thimble Summer, Garnet and Citronella experience the process and importance of growing up during a interesting and a summer with a magical thimble. Growing up in the great depression and families not having enough supplies, Citronella and Garnet loved their parents and shared the love with Citronella’s grandmother, the amazing teller of stories. Growing up is a long and difficult process. But it isn’t very evident, and often can only be spotted after a long time of experiencing it. When they were in the library, Citronella and garnet started telling stories whether made up, or truthful. Citronella told a wonderful story about a love story, and it was truly amazing. Garnet then suggested they go to the library to read some books. Citronella disagreed because she didn’t want to go read books, but went with garnet anyway. As shown: “Citronella objected for a minute or two because she said she didn't feel like walking all that way just to read a book.” Growing up shows the importance of love and respect for our family members, and also how we should understand the power of magic figuratvily or imaginary. Something or someone might change so suddenly, that we can not realise it has became better or worse, or grown up.

Always trust our family and cherish everything they provided for us in our living. We can perhaps disagree, but never violate or harm them in anyway. Garnet and Citronella both loved their family, especially their great grandmother of Citronella’s. She tells wonderful stories and makes them fascinated. Garnet’s mother is extremely loving and careful of her child, and so it Citronella’s mother and father. Garnet aways likes to help her mother with the ironing, and is in charge of collecting mail for her parents. This makes her family full of responsibility and pride in having a job in the family. However, Garnet does not really enjoy ironing that much. “A fine thing to have to do on a day like this,” Garnet had said when her mother told her to do the ironing.” After the ironing, she and Citronella went to the library where they stayed too long and got locked in. To show their love, their parents went looking everywhere and finally found them in the library, still laughing and telling stories. Garnet and Citronella love their parents, but not exactly enjoy the work they make them do. However, they have a extremely great interest in Citronella’s grandma. They got the idea of telling storeis in the library from her. Family can share many secrets, and also show responsibility and care for us.

We can see the symbolism of a magic silver thimble that symbolises luck, hopefulness, happiness, and peace. There is magic and belief in every object, if only we look hard to see what it symbolises. They might give us ideas or comments on how we are acting or what we might improve, but only take in the good or ideas you agree on. Garnet does just this when people laugh at her with her silver thimble. Her thimble was her luck, and also what she believed to be magical and gives her good luck in a hard world. Garnet knew the thimble was magical, and will solve all ehr problems. Synoblism is powerful, and we should learn it to be aware of the themes and values in life..Garnet understanded evetything the magic thimble will give her on such a hot, sad, unlucky day. She had been stuck on a ferris wheel, locked in a library, and so many events in life that she could not bear to think of. But this all was before she found the thimble, and when she did her pig won a blue ribbon, and a boy came as her family’s adopted son. Symbolism and luck is important in order to cherish and understand the values of something magical in life.

Thimble Summer talks about two girls named Citronella and Garnet who are very adventurous and loving children. Garnet is more energetic and outgoing than Citronella, who mostly likes to read and worry about things rather than do action activities. But Garnet somehow pulls her around to do it anyway. It is a story about friendship, growing up, and the magic of a silver thimble Garnet discovered. She had thought it was good luck, and brought it wherever she goes. If we think something is a symbolism of good luck, we should look for more themes in that one object, or use it wisely for your situation. No one should be roved wrong, magic is magic and it is okay to believe in it. Our family is the first place we should go for advice or help. They care for us more than anyone else, and even if sometimes they give us many work to do, they are doing it for our own good. One example is Garnets mother ordering her to collect the mail and iron clothes. We should always focus on our family and friends and also what we believe to be magic during growth.
