Book review of The Whipping Boy

The book The Whipping Boy is about a prince named prince brat and his whipping boy Jemmy. The prince has a whipping boy named Jemmy because it is against the law to whip the prince so instead when the prince does something wrong, the whipping boy is punished. One night the prince runs away from his castle and brings his whipping boy too. Then they have a lot of adventures in which they need to change their identity to escape. They finally return to the king and become friends.

Anyone can be friends as long as they understand and respect each other regardless of their wealthiness or social status. Friendship can grow through hard times as people help each other and learn more from each other. At the start, the prince and Jemmy didn’t get along. But in the end, they became loyal friends. This change happened because they were going through adventures in which they had to trust and rely on each other. This is what turned them into friends. Friendship can exist in different social statuses and even if people dislike each other.

Loyalty is a very important trait and is the best one that friends can have. A loyal friend will stay by you even if times are tough. This means that you trust your companions and they trust you so you will get through difficult times. When prince brat told cutwater where Jemmy was, it made them almost fail to escape. Also, when Prince brat followed Jemmy into the sewers, he trusted him and they escaped from the cutthroats. After they were loyal to each other, they succeeded in what they were trying to do. If they were not loyal, they failed. Loyalty is important. A loyal friend is reliable and keeps his or her word, this leads to others being loyal and friendships getting stronger.

Judgements based on someone's appearance will likely be incorrect and might hurt that person's feelings. This means that you shouldn’t judge someone by how it looks, and instead you can judge something by how they act. When Jemmy and the prince were scared of Petunia because of her sharp teeth and claws, the bear actually saved their lives. Prince brat and Jemmy judged Petunia by her frightening looks, but she was actually very sweet and wouldn’t hurt a kitten. Appearances are usually deceiving; people are usually tricked by them so we can’t make reliable judgment through appearances alone.

The whipping boy is a stimulating book that teaches us friendship, loyalty, and not to judge people by their appearance. Friends are very important in life and true friends don't care about their difference in social status. Loyal friends like Jemmy never let you down even in difficult situations. If you judge your choices of friends by their appearances you will miss out on a lot of great and loyal friends because good traits are hidden inside.
