Book Review of The Story of My Life

The book "The Story of My Life" is an autobiography by Helen Keller, talking about how Helen overcame her disabilities, deprived two important senses, sight and hearing, and how she overcame such a difficulty. The story starts when she was born in a small village in Tuscumbia, Alabama, and when she was still an infant, she was plunged into a world of darkness. Her parents tried their best to help her, and they succeeded by finding her a great teacher, Anne Sullivan. After many events, Miss Sullivan eventually was able to educate her enough for college, and Helen thanked everyone in her book who had helped her so much on the way to her success.

Nature is truly beautiful, and we can learn a lot from nature. Some of the greatest beauties, knowledge, and understanding of the entire world lies in nature. Many of these wonders which have never been discovered before remain concealed within the great depths of nature. In the story, Helen feels safer in nature than anywhere else. In nature, she does not need her eyes and ears to understand her surroundings, feeling the power of nature through her nose and her hands, not having to rely on sight, hearing, or verbal communication. Helen learns many lessons, no matter English, arithmetic, or something else, with Miss Sullivan through nature. When she encounters a new part of nature, she will always be greatly interested. There was only one bad memory of nature through Helen’s eyes, where she was stuck on a tree during a storm. But even so, she was taught important life lessons from such an incident. Clearly, nature is extremely wonderful and helpful to us, and should be respected to the greatest degree.

We can reach any goal in our lives as long as we try our best to do so and have the determination when we fail at any obstacles that we would face along the way of reaching our goal. When we encounter a problem or an obstacle, it is important to not give up entirely on our ultimate goal. Helen's success is a result of many people, including herself. Helen had great perseverance, making herself try her best to overcome her difficulties. Miss Sullivan possessed extreme perseverance as well, dealing with Helen's anger early on in her teaching, knowing for a fact that she can help change Helen's life. The support of Helen's family and friends also helped her overcome her great obstacles from her lack of sight and hearing. Without such commitment and perseverance, Helen would never be able to overcome her challenges. Therefore, in order to reach our goals, we have to be determined to go through the challenges on the way and never give up on whatever we are trying to accomplish.

Friendship is something that we need to have in order to achieve our goals. Many people working together is, no matter how incredibly skilled someone is, always better than one singular person. In the book, Helen makes it very clear throughout her memories how much she values her friends, as well as the great impact they have made on her life. Some of her greatest friends are people from her family, who provided her the love and support she needed when she was at a little age. It was her parents who went out of their way to help Helen, and she was forever grateful for such a great deed. Unlike many children her age, Helen's unique circumstances allowed her to make friends with people from all sorts of backgrounds from all across the United States. These friends gave Helen the help and support she needed to succeed in education, in career, as well as her entire life. Thus, it is extremely necessary and important to surround ourselves with people who care about us and what we do.

This story is fun and thoughtful, talking about how the author herself, Helen Keller, lived without sight or hearing. This story is very interesting itself, and it gives deep thought just reading it, but there are deeper, more important ideas to be learned within the story. It tells us of the great knowledge nature could possess, the importance of dedication and perseverance, as well as the incredible power of friendship and family. These three things might not look as important, but they will turn out to be throughout our lives. They guide us away from our deepest worries and into sunshine and confidence. They help us become wiser than we are now, and would help us make better choices. These important things will last us our lives, so we should take notice of them now, so we could be benefited by them earlier. As you can see, this book is amazing, and it tells us of important things essential to a good life.
