The story <The Story of Ferdinand> written by Munro Leaf, drawings by Robert Lawson, talks about a little bull Ferdinand that lives in Spain, it likes to sit quietly and smell flowers. One day, five men come in very funny hats to pick the biggest, fastest, toughest bull to fight in the bullfights in Madrid. All the other bulls run around to show themselves. Only Ferdinand chases a bee who stings Ferdinand, the five men see him and take him away. At last, when everybody wants to see the fight, Ferdinand just sits and smells the flowers on lady’s hats. People have no idea and take him home.
It is not bad to be different. Not everything the majority do is right. In the story, Ferdinand is different from other cows. When others are hitting and fighting with each other, Ferdinand is sitting under his favorite tree and smells flowers, he’s unique. In real life, we can have our differences. For example, a lot of new ideas from the person who is keeping a different mind. These new ideas help the world be better. Just like what Lev Tolstoy said:Such a person is brave to do what he deserves.
Sometimes we don’t need to follow the majority. Scientists say that with too many people, intelligence will decrease. In the story, when all the cows are together, the only thing they do is fight. If they get to the bull ring, they’ll all die. In real life, people often do the stupid things, like fighting, war, pollution, buying luxury goods. We need to keep our mind, don’t follow everything`. We should be strong to be ourselves.
We should help the others with the difference. All the different experiences can help others. In the story, Ferdinand’s difference is saving his life. When he gets back home he can tell the experience to other cows, that no cows will be killed. In real life, we can learn what others can’t, when it can be used, we can help. For example, some scientists have very different lives, but their inventions have helped humans. Keep our hobbies and keep our differences.
In conclusion, this story tells us many truths. First, it is not bad to be different. Second, we don’t need to follow the majority. Last but not the least, we should help others with our differences. I learn a lot from this story, and highly recommend this story to you, wish you could like it.
