The Hound of Baskerville written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, it talks about Sherlock Holmes' case of a mysterious dog. This Dog or known as the Hound of Baskerville kills only the Baskerville family. When Sir Henry’s older brother dies his fathers inheritance goes to him, and Mr. Watson, Sherlock’s Holmes assistant, finds paw prints on the site. Sir Henry arrives and all three of them stick together so Sir Henry is not killed by the Hound of Baskerville. Sherlock Holmes, finds a message by Laura Franklin, and goes to her, she admits that she sent the notes to kill Sir Henry’s brother. They hear that Seldon, an escaped prisoner, is shielded by Watsons servants Mr. and Mrs. Beryllsome, and given food by them. Watson and Sir Henry go get him, but then they heard a scream, and they seldom saw dead, and that’s when they figured that the dog got the shirt's scent to kill them. When Sir Henry goes home, Watson meets Sherlock Holmes, and then they hear a dog, they get their guns out, and it chases Sir Henry, but Sherlock Holmes and Watson kill it, they see that Jack Stapelton, another Baskerville, sends the dog, so he can get the inheritance and arrest him.
Sherlock Holmes cases need observations, reasoning, deductioning, and logicality. Sherlock Holmes uses his observation to help him, because in the story when he observes the site where Sir Henry’s brother dies, he sees a pile of ashes from his cigarette, and it shows he stood there for a few minutes, this leads to something big. He also has a reason for not believing the Hound, it is because it is not real but thought to be real, even though everyone believed it, he thought it was fear that struck them to death of something bigger. He uses deduction to cross out the people he knows that did not do the killing, such as Watson. He used logic to figure out the evident things that some people do not see but he does, like the footprints, and the note that was almost burned from Laura. This is how he used these four important parts in his investigation for the person who is killing everyone.
Supernatural is when there are no real things, like a dragon or a fictional object, while a natural object is something that is real, and comes from nature, like a tree. There are many things in the book, but there are also some natural things. Some supernatural objects are the dog because they describe him as a fiery, fire-breathing beast. People also believed that it was real, and even Dr. Mortimer, who is a scientist, chose to believe it. Some natural objects in the story were Sherlock Holmes and his cases, because it could be a real case of some family dying from a killer. Some examples of this supernatural and natural story is The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. In the world there are just natural objects but in stories there can be supernatural just like the story Hound of Baskerville.
Human nature is evil and cruel, because we are not perfect at things like how we lie a lot, and do bad things like stealing. Some evil human nature parts in the story is when Sir Henry’s ancestor Sir Hugo is cursed for locking a girl in his basement, he is then cursed with the hound of Baskerville. Jack Stapleton is also evil, because he is greedy for money and uses women to his advantage by telling them to send a message to people to kill them. Some people are also morally wrong like Mrs. Barrymore who protects and hides a criminal. Laura and Mrs. Beryl is also morally wrong because they both follow what Jack Stapleton says even though they know they are gonna kill someone.
Women are shown with power throughout the story, because of the love from men. Laura Frankland Lyon is deceived by Jack Stapleton, because she was promised to marry him, but he lied and went for another woman. She then knew what she did was wrong, sending the letter to Sir Charles, and ultimately killing him. But at the end she confessed what she did, giving Holmes a clear clue about who did the killing, and confronted him. Mrs. Beryl was forced by her husband to act like she was his sister, and did. She tried to warn Sir Henry but he didn’t care, because of his love. Beryl was beaten by her husband, because she refused to cooperate, and was tied, but she was found, and they arrested him, because of her warning. This is how Women had shown their power throughout the story.
The story The Hound of Baskerville talks about a case Sherlock Holmes solves, and the killing of Baskerville from a dog. Sherlock Holmes cases need observation, reasoning, deduction, and logicality to prove his cases are right and correct. Supernaturalism and naturalism are two different things, supernaturalism are things that are not true, while naturalism are things that are true, and made from nature. Human nature is cruel and bad because we are not perfect at things, and we lie a lot in life, and do other bad things like stealing. Women have a lot of power in life, like in the story both women are loved by men, and they are tricked by Jack to kill for him, and allure the people there for his killing. The story of The Hound of Baskerville is a unexpected and spectacular book to read, and it talks about how Sherlock Holmes is good with his cases.
