The book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, written by Samuel Langhorne Clemens under the pen name Mark Twain, is an interesting story about the exploits of a boy named Tom Sawyer and his friends. He loves playing with his friends and he is highly superstitious yet also very intelligent and clever. He pretends to be anything from robbers to pirates to treasure hunters, and makes an enemy, the horrible Injun Joe, a man who is rumored to kill and murder. When Tom and his friend Huckleberry Finn witness him murdering a man, they vow to stay silent for they fear that Injun Joe will come after them. But they soon discover that Injun Joe has a treasure, and eventually, after going into the caves where Injun Joe hid it and testifying to Judge Thatcher, they are rich, with more money than most of the adults in town. While he seems to be a greedy thief and a mischievous delinquent, he is incredibly likable, brave, and caring. This book is interesting and fun, and it would be a great read for anyone.
Maturity is important and powerful, however, most children fool around often and need to grow up before they become mature. Children need time to have fun and use their imaginations and creativity, so that once they become mature, they will still be clever and creative. Many children rebel against rules, and we have to let them learn the consequences and rules, while also protecting them. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom and his friends had fun pretending to be pirates, yet once they realized how much they missed home and how sad everyone was at their disappearance, they learned their lesson and came back to a heroic welcome. Tom is kind and thoughtful enough to have considered leaving a note for his Aunt Polly, and that he doesn’t because he feels it would make her worry shows new maturity. Over time, kids will eventually become more mature and grown-up, as they come of age. It’s important we give them time to find their own pace. No one is perfect and expecting people to be completely mature will harm people around you.
Bravery and courage are two valuable traits that allow people to be successful when they take ventures into unexplored places. When people take risks, they can put themselves in danger, but they are willing to do so for the chance of unexpected fortune and riches. Risk isn’t always worth it, but having courage and bravery helps us get through danger if we encounter it. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Huck went through the danger of possibly becoming Injun Joe’s next target in order to try and keep Tom safe and bring the murderer to justice. Tom went into the caves in search of the treasure even though it was dangerous in there, and Injun Joe had already died inside. They both ended up with six thousand dollars, which would be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars today. Bravery with a bit of luck can lead to immense success as long as you persevere. When you have the courage to go on adventures into possibly treacherous places, you can be rewarded with many things.
Friendship is valuable and incredibly helpful in times of need, when you are feeling down they can cheer you up. Having friends allows you to have assistance in difficult tasks and allows you to improve and get help whenever you need it, as long as you are civil and kind and reciprocate to your friends. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, he always had his two trusty friends, Joseph “Joe” Harper and Huckleberry “Huck” Finn by his side, going on adventures and using their immense imaginations. Their trust helps them stay together through challenges like facing the murderer Injun Joe and adventuring into dangerous caves. With friends, you can overcome so much more than you could normally alone. Friends will always benefit you, and they are something you can always rely on. Friendship is incredibly important because it allows you to reach a higher potential and develop your courage and skills.
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer explores complex themes and entertains the reader using a riveting plotline. It teaches us the power of being mature and the fact that we must wait for kids to gain maturity, the importance of having courage while taking risks, and the immense value of friends. Maturity allows us to make good decisions, but we can’t expect kids to be born with it. Courage allows us to push through fear and succeed during danger. Friends assist us and help us complete important tasks. These themes are sophisticated and are introduced in an effective way. This book teaches us important lessons about life. I would recommend this book for anyone due to its great storyline and knowledgeable themes.
