The story Sarah Plain and tall written by Patricia Maclachlan talks about girl Anna’s family. She and her brother Caleb lose their mom when Caleb is born. Their father wants a new wife. A lady called Sarah comes to their home from Maine. They think she is smart and works hard. She learns to ride a horse and drive a wagon very fast. They all like her and Papa will marry her soon.
Everyone will feel lonely at some time. Loneliness is a discomfort and unhappy feeling. In the story, Sarah is a new person to this family. She will be papa’s new wife. She leaves her home and the sea. She feels lonely because she has no family and friends here. Papa loses his wife and no longer sing. The sibling lose their mom. They all feel lonely because they lose their family. When people get lonely, they need to help and comfort each other.
Home is where the heart is. Home is a warm place where a family lives together. They feel comfortable and happy at home. In the story, Sarah leaves her home and she feels lonely. She decides to stay at the place and make it new home. When she stays with papa, Anna and Caleb she feels happy and warm. So this place is her new home. Home is not a house. Home is a place to live with families.
The change of family will change a person’s life. When one family member dies, the others will be very sad and helpless. People can not control it. In the story, Anna’s mom dies. Sarah’s brother will marry soon. Anna and Sarah both lose their family. They build a new home and have a new family. Life shall go on no matter what happens in the family. We must try our best to cheer up.
Lastly, we need to know loneliness is very common and everyone could feel lonely. When we meet some changes in family, we have to get through it and have a new happy life. Home is a place where the heart is. When the families live together in a place, that is our home. And I want to let you know the writer is a Newbery Medal winner because of this book.
