Book Review of Little House on the Prairie

In the Newbery Award novel "Little House On The Prairie", written by Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder, talks about the Ingall family (Caroline Ingalls, Charles Ingalls, Mary Ingalls, Laura Ingalls and Baby Carrie) and their time throughout a prairie. At the beginning, the family leave the Big Woods, the place they lived before, and go to a prairie in Kansas, Indian Territory. because the place was overpopulated. Together, the family encounter many events with their friends Mr. Scott, Ms. Scott and Mr Edwards in which they face illness, hardships, danger, risk of death, Native Americans and wild animals. The Native Americans were kicked out because of the conflict between them and the settlers. The story ends where there is news that the government would force the settlers out of the Indian Territory, so the family move away again.

The novel describes a history background where white settlers invade a Native American territory. The book explains the story of white settlers invading an Indian’s territory and their attitude towards the Indians. The settlers’ behaviour towards the Native Americans express how they think it is fair for them to invade and how a treaty can make them do whatever they want to them. Because of the conflict between the white settlers and the Native Americans, the Indians were kicked out, then the settlers by the government. The Ingall family are white settlers to a prairie in Kansas, Indian Territory. At the time, people were migrating into the prairie and the result was the conflict between white settlers and Native Americans. They had war, the Indians were kicked out and finally the settlers were forced to leave due to the illegal settlement. The settlers (Mr. Edwards) thought that “the only good Indian is a dead Indian”, meaning that they wanted all Indians to die even when they took over their land first. It isn’t right for settlers or ‘pioneers’ to claim land when it is a Native American territory or to use a treaty to do whatever they want to the land. It is unfair for people to take away the Native Americans’ home, whether or not they want it. The novel tells us the conflict between the Native Americans and white settlers.

Family is always essential; family members will always care for each other. Family members are always loving and caring towards each other, no matter what happens or is about to happen. While family members are together, they will always mind and help the others. People who are part of the same family always care about others despite what they do, have or think. Even when family members do unpleasant acts for others, they will not start hatred. The Ingall family are supportive and essential for each other. They work together to complete a new house and encounter many hardships. Mr. Ingalls and Mrs. Ingalls work hard to have a house on the prairie and to keep Mary, Laura and Carrie safe, especially when they are pioneers. Their parents are hard working to keep moving and to survive in the prairie wilderness. Because they are pioneers, they have a harder time trying to claim land. The parents work hard to keep their children safe, especially when they get malaria. Family will do anything to protect other members; everybody in a family has a role and importance. They will always think about each other, no matter what happens. The Ingalls family is always hard working and caring; they never let anything get in their way when they are together. Family members do not always want to show their love and care, but despite their actions it is still clear that they still care. Family is always important.

Facing difficulties for us is never easy. Difficulties are never easy for our own standards. Difficulties can be such as jobs, actions, behaviours or events that affect our life. However, no hardship can be easy- no matter what we do to make it easier. Difficulties for us doesn’t mean it cannot be solved, though. Doing hard things while being in a harsh situation doesn’t mean that we cannot get out of it. The Ingalls family go through difficulties and hardships that are never easy for them. They are pioneers so one of their main difficulties is to claim new land and move to new places. The wildlife in Kansas was both dangerous and hard to survive in because of the disease, wild animals, cleaning, building and patience. Even through all the difficulties, they still survived through the hardships. They challenged all of their hardships, found help and solved them together. When they were kicked out of the prairie, they stayed calm and worked together to leave the place, which was a difficulty for packing up and patience. Despite how hard a thing is, it doesn’t mean we cannot do it. Even when it requires anything important or needs a specific item, it always can be solved together. Having difficulties is not easy to solve, but it doesn’t mean that it is impossible either.
