Book Review of Joey Pigza Loses Control

The story Joey Pigza Loses Control, by Jack Gantos talks about a boy named Joey, who lives with his mom, but they are going to their dads house, because his mom and dad are divorced. While they are driving their dog Pablo throws up, but they make it there safely. Then when they get to their dads house, his mom leaves him and Pablo, at home. They first go to a place called story land with his dad, and talk, then Joey forgot Pablo but they see him safe, then the next few days Joey starts baseball, and does really good throwing, but not good hitting. Joey won his first ever played game, and everything flipped for the team. But throughout the story, Joey’s dad believes Joey is normal, and throws away his medicine, but then Joey believed in him, but during the finals of a championship, Joey did bad pitching, and started throwing bad. Then he fled, and went to the mall. He hid in his dads new girlfriend's work place, and she allowed him. Then he was picked up by his mom, and went home. But he forgot Pablo, with his grandma, but when he got there, his grandma left him outside for him.

In the story Joey has Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or shortly called ADHD. ADHD is one of the most common, disordered effects of children, this means that it affects the children to easily get disordered or can not concentrate well. It also makes them restless, not listening, careless mistakes, and excessive talking. They also need some extra help, because they cannot focus, so parents must give the medicine. In the story when Joey’s dad says he is normal, he throws his medication to the toilet, this makes him go crazy one day at pitching, and he throws bad. Some parents don’t believe their kids have ADHD and they throw their kids medication away, thinking they are ok, and they won’t go crazy. But it does not go the way they expect it, and instead they should've trusted the doctors. The parents also have different reactions to their kids' ADHD like being scared, panicked, or not willing to face, or neglecting the fact they have ADHD. But some parents believe in ADHD, and they try to help them with sports, like for example Michael Phelps, who had it, but science he did sports, he survived. This is the meaning of ADHD, and how it is shown in the story.

During the story Joey’s family has a lot of problems, like, being out of control, and not being self controlled, like his dad, who may be kind on the outside, but on the inside he is a maniac, and drinks a lot. We can see this through many characters, like his dad, who is good in ways like Loving Joey, and encouraging him to play baseball with him, he also talks to him often, and starts getting better. But he also has problems, like lack of self control, like losing temper, or being alcoholic, and extremely nervous. He also talks a lot, but small actions, because in the story he talks a lot, but soon he does some bad things like drinking.  His mom is also a good mom, because she cares for him, and loves him. She has some problems too, like being impatient, because when she says sugar, it doesn’t mean sweet, it means she is frustrated. She also sometimes is careless. We can see this, by her driving without her license. The grandma also loves Joey, but she has some problems, doesn't stop smoking, and is a little biased. This is the problem of the characters in the story.

In the story, Joey’s family has a lack of self control, but we can heal that, in many various different ways. This can be like Joey's dad who Loses temper easily, and is rude to Joey’s mom, grandma, and even his new girlfriend. When they lose games, he is extremely nervous, and gets mad at the players. He also has a DWI, which means that he drinks while he is driving, which is bad, because he could crash. His mom lacks self control, like she is impatient, and she says sugar if something bad happens. She also is really nervous, like when Joey leaves she is nervous for him. The grandma also lacks control too, because she doesn’t stop smoking which is bad for you, she also is impatient, and gets mad. But we can heal all of this, with being patient and loving, and being able to hear someone's thoughts. This is how we can heal all the no self control in the story.

The story Joey Pigza Loses Control, talks about a boy, being left with his father, but goes crazy in the middle of a baseball game because he has ADHD. But he does not have his medicine with him, for his father had flushed them in a toilet, and he runs to the mall, during the game, then he gets picked up by his mom, and they go home. In the story, Joey has ADHD, and his dad neglects it, and he throws away his medicine, thinking that he is normal as other kids are. His family also is good, but has problems, like his dad who loves him but drinks, and drives at the same time which means they can crash. His family also lacks self control, and there are solutions to that, like his mom, who is nervous, and impatient, but that can be fixed if she hears it is ok, and gets more patient. The story Joey Pigza loses control, is a great book to read.
