Book Review of How The Leopard Got His Claws

The story< how the leopard got his claws> is written by Chinua Achebe, talks about long ago, the animals are all friends, and their king is the leopard. They all don’t have any claws and teeth except for dogs. One day, the leopard told the animals that they need shelter when the rainy seasons are coming. The dog and duck think that it is unnecessary, so they don’t want to build it. Different animals will make different parts of the building. When the rainy season comes, the dog hides in his cave, but the rain destroys the cave so that he comes to the house, and he hurts the deer and leopard. So, they want the dog to be their new king. The leopard got the claws and teeth from the blacksmith and a thunder voice from the thunder. And he hurt the dog very heavily.

We have to do something if we can if others are being dangerous to us. If we just do nothing, the bad people will just keep hurting us and our friends and we don’t even have the power to stop or give him some revenge. In the story, the leopard is a good person, he thinks that dog is so dangerous to his group, so he asked for terrible tools and scared the dog away. We need to do that thing if we have the ability to do it, leopard thinks that he is not strong enough to compete with dogs so he asked for tools to help him fight the dog. I think that we need to do something when we meet a bad person and we have the capacity to do that.

If we are doing bad things, we will get revenge and we will not have a good life. If we are doing bad things, no matter who, but someone will give us revenge. It may be the police or other people. In the story, the dog is hurting the owner of the house and thinks that he owns the house. And that is a bad thing. So, the revenge for him is that he becomes the servant for the hunter. The person who gives revenge to the leopard, he thinks that dog is doing a very bad thing so that he gave him a very big punishment and made him the servant for the hunter. I think that we should not do bad things because we will get revenge.

When we are refusing to do something and the whole group is doing it, we should think before we act. If we do not do it, maybe we won’t get the benefit from it when all others use it and we can’t. In the story, the dog and the duck did not help build the shelter which is the village hall, and they can’t stay in it. They did nothing so that they can enjoy the good result that other animals made. Even if we can’t enjoy the benefits, we have to be responsible for what we have done, not like a dog, he just does whatever he wants. I think that it is very important to think before we act.

In conclusion, I think that it is very important to give people that are dangerous to our life some revenge if we have the ability to do that. If we don’t do that, they may keep hurting us. I’m not saying that we should fight with them, but we could give them a small punishment. We should not do bad things because when we are doing bad things, there will be other people that will give us revenge and punish us. So, we should not do bad things like dogs. We should always think before we refuse to do something when all our group mates are doing it. If we refuse to do it, we may not be able to get the benefit from it.
