The book Heidi written by Johanna Spyri is a great book about a lively little girl and her life in a rich house and with her grandpa. The story starts off with Heidi being dropped off and her grandpa’s house. Soon, she adapts and plays with the goats, helping Peter herd them. However, Aunt Dete comes back again soon and takes Heidi away to live with a rich girl in Frankfurt. She doesn’t enjoy it there, and comes back to the Swiss Alps eventually. This story is full of friendship, family, and healing.
Family is essential to life. Having a family is like having a place where you truly belong, like a place where you can relax. In the story, Heidi is orphaned at birth and brought up by her Aunt Deta. However, when she goes to her grandfather, she bonds with him even more closely and enjoys her time with him up in the mountains. Heidi doesn’t like her life in Frankfurt, and is happy to return to her grandpa and to her native mountain air. Family is like superglue, never being able to be torn apart. Family is the start of love.
Friendship is the ‘ship’ that understands and supports us. Having a friend is kind of like having a diary, having someone you can confide in. Heidi makes friends with Peter, the goat herder pretty soon when she comes to the Swiss Alps to live with her grandfather. They play with the goats everyday, and create a bond that gets temporarily ripped when Heidi goes to Frankfurt, but gets rebuilt when she comes back and makes up for it. Friendship is a bond that you can confide in. Whoever understands friendship can have a better time of being happy.
Healing is like restoring to original status. Healing is to mend, to put right and fix whatever was broken up. Heidi healed her grandfather a bit and made him see bigger things when she came to live with him in the Swiss Alps. She also mended her friendship with Peter after returning from Frankfurt by asking him to help Klara walk again when Klara visited, which made up for her missed playtime. Healing is not something that should be broken. Healing is like a securely fastened tape, getting tighter and tighter as someone mends their broken.
Heidi, by Johanna Spyri, is a great book of three main life lessons that everybody should know about and consider in their lives. Having love and family, being able to explore and enjoy friendship, and be able to heal and mend someone’s loss. Heidi experiences family with Aunt Dete, her grandpa, and the Sesemann family, makes friends with both Klara and Peter, and is able to heal her grandpa and her friendship with Peter. This is a great book for readers that like realistic fiction and I recommended it to readers greatly.
