This book called Flora and Ulysses written by Kate Dicamillo, it talks about one day, the girl Flora saw Tootie
Tickman’s vacuum cleaner was vacuuming a squirrel, Flora rescued the squirrel and found the squirrel has super powers - type and understand humans’ words. Flora thought her mom would kill Ulysses so she took the adventure to rescue it. Finally, the family get along with each other.
We should help our parents if they need help. We could take care of ourselves, help parents make food or manage ourselves. In the story, Flora doesn’t know how to show her love to her parents. However, she knows how to show her love to the squirrel, she should respect and love her parents as to the squirrel. In a word, we can have many ways to show our love to parents.
Every parents love their child. Our parents are always at our side when we need them. Flora’s mom loves Flora, but she doesn’t know how to show her love to Flora, while Flora’s father doesn’t know how to sense the love. They should say it out loud if they don’t know how to show their love. It is very nature that parents love their child, but actually they have many ways to express it. Child also need to learn to sense the love.
We should stay positive if in such family as Flora. We should keep positive even if parents are divorced or unhappy. In the story, Flora is always cynic and afraid to believe, even to her parents. However, if we are Flora, we should help parents and teach them how to show love. Family should care about each other. Not only we need to be positive about family, but also we need to be positive when we have problems.
I like this story because it has many funny plots like the squirrel named Ulysses is because it is found in the vacuum machine, and it has a happy ending. We also learn from the story that we should show our love to family members, what’s more, parents even they are adults also need to learn how to love others.
