In Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White, Fern stopped a weak piglet from being killed by her father and named him Wilbur and took care of him. Later, Wilbur was sold to Mr. Zuckerman. Wilbur felt lonely there because no one wants to be his friend. Then, Wilbur met Charlotte, who he thought was cruel at the beginning, but then he grew to like her very much. The lamb delivered bad news that Wilbur will be killed, but Charlotte made three webs to help Wilbur survive. Eventually, Wilbur, Charlotte, and Templeton went to the County Fair, and that was where Charlotte truly saved Wilbur’s life. Then, he and Templeton came back to the farm, while Charlotte died peacefully at the Fair.
Charlotte helps Wilbur because she treated him as a friend. Because he is her friend, she sacrifices her time to spin webs for him to save his life. Wilbur also wants to sacrifice his life for her, as shown in Chapter 21. Friendship doesn’t have to go this deep that you have to sacrifice your life for a friend, but it is often formed by someone liking someone else. Then the latter realizes it and also likes the former, and they become friends.
Charlotte saved Wilbur’s life because they are both loyal to their friendship. Wilbur promised to take care of Charlotte’s children for the same reason. Even after Charlotte died, Wilbur still showed his loyalty to Charlotte by befriending her children. They help each other because of loyalty, and that loyalty is why Wilbur survived Christmas.
All plants and animals follow a life cycles. In the book, Charlotte gets born, she matures, she lays eggs, she dies, and her children are born. Wilbur gets born, he matures, he has children, his children are born, he dies. Almost all plants and animals die and can’t live forever. Shortly after spiders have children, they die. If Charlotte doesn’t have children, she might live longer, but most spiders must have chidren when the time comes. Even though Charlotte also likes Wilbur and doesn’t want to die, she also want her children. So they can only do the best they can to accomplish the most they can in their limited life. They can share their love, help each other and do something kind.
In conclusion, Charlotte’s Web is a book about friendship, loyalty, and life cycles. In this story, Wilbur lives a life full of friendship with Charlotte and their farm friends. I recommend you to read this book.
