Book Review of Anne of Green Gables

The story talks about an orphan named Anne. Mattew and Marilla wanted to adopt a little boy to help them with the farm. When Mattew arrived at the station, he found a girl called Anne waiting at the station and took her home. When they got home, Marilla was very angry that it was a girl and she wanted to send her away. So Anne is very sad. After Marilla heard the story of Anne and found Anne was hardworking, Marilla agreed to adopt her. Anne is overjoyed at this news. Also, she made a friend called Diana. At her school, Avonlea, she did a very good job. Then, when she was 13 years old, she started to study for Queens. That year, she studied especially hard. At the entrance exam for Queens, she did very well and in her final exam as well. After that school year, she went back to the green gables. But after two days she got home, Mattew died. She decided to give up her teaching and she would stay at home. After Gilbert hears this, he decides to give up his spot at the neighboring village to teach. Finally, Anne forgives Gilbert for laughing at her red hair, and they become good friends.

Imagination can light the hope for us to live. Sometimes imagination can also help us recover when we are injured by our feelings. In the book, because Anne’s early life was very lonely, she does not have friends at her age. So Anne relies on the beauty of the natural world and her imagination to find the hope to live. Ms. Lynde said that Anne is being rude and surprisingly strange for her red hair. Anne felt so sad and desperate that she would never say sorry to Ms. Lynde. So she imagines that she was beautiful when she first arrives at the Green Gables. Beautiful things, especially nature, provide firsthand what her imagination can only pretend. And then she was no longer stuck in a low mood. So I think imagination lights up hope.

Friendship can help us a lot when we are lost. Two good friends will always share their similarities and help each other when they need help. They will also be loyal and friendly to each other too. When Anne is small, she is lack of friends around her age. Not long after Anne came to the green gables, she made a good friend called Diana. And from then on, Anne found out that actually, a good friend is not as rare as she thought. Also, as Anne’s view is changing, her point for like-minded people has changed. The trust and willingness to find the best part of each other are the ground of their friendship.

Home can allow us to have the feeling of being safe and loved. At home, we can be more satisfied. Anne did not have a permanent home before the Cuthberts agreed to adopt her. In the book, when the Cuthberts agreed to adopt Anne, Anne was overjoyed that she finally could have a place to call home. Over time, however, Anne’s cheerfulness makes the Cuthberts realize that, while Anne certainly needed a place to call home, they also needed Anne to make the green gables feel like a real home. And finally, when Mathew died, Anne decided to go back to the Green Gables, the home. So I think home nourished Anne, and finally Anne, as a member of the family, took the responsibility to help the home.

The book tells us that imagination, friendship, and home are important to our life. In the book, Anne uses her imagination most of the time to help her to recover when she is injured by her feelings. The friendship between Anne and Diana helps Anne realize that friendship is not rare and that a kind spirit may lie under an unlike face. Home is not only a refuge but an inspiration of strength. I recommend Anne of the Green Gables to you.
