Book Review of ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY

Setting: At school, at home

Plot:Alexander has a terrible day.


The story Alexander-and-The-Terrible written by Judith Viorst talks about a little boy who has a very bad day. At home, he wakes up with gum in his hair. Then, he trips on the skateboard and drops his sweater in the sink. At that time he feels that it is going to be a very bad day. At school many terrible things happened such as his mom forgets to put in desserts. After school there are many things that make him sad. There are lima beans for dinner. He hate lima beans. What a terrible ,horrible, no good ,very bad day!

A lot of unhappiness can be avoided if we can be careful. Many sad things happen because you don’t care enough about the things around you. For example, when Alexander forgets 16 in math class, the teacher scolds him. It makes him very sad. He can avoid this unhappiness by learning more about counting and checking more before giving the answer. That’s why we need to be more careful in our lives.

When there is unhappiness in our lives, we should breathe deeply, and count to 10 to calm down. In that way we can remember the happy things and forget the unhappy things. In the story, Alexander tries to run away from unhappy things. However, it doesn’t work and Alexander has been trapped in the unhappy feelings. If he breathes deeply, he won’t be afraid.

We shouldn’t run away from the unhappiness or you can’t be brave. If we run away, we won’t change anything and unhappiness is still there. Alexander wants to run away to Australia when he is unhappy. he loses the chance to be brave and sad things don’t change. Therefore, we need to use our knowledge to solve problems.

In the story, Alexander has many bad things happen, such as having lima beans for dinner, and he thinks about running away. The story tells us that we need to be careful to make sure that the bad things won’t happen again. We need to find some ways to let us calm down,like breathe deeply.So we can think about how to solve our unhappiness. At last, we should face the problem instead of running away.
