Animals Come to Our Backyard

There is a problem on Earth that animals are coming to our backyard. In Georgia, alligators splash in neighborhood pools and even walk on sidewalks in Savannah. Deers eat flower beds in Big Pine Key. Black bears are getting too close for comfort. Some people complain that it is the animal’s fault but it’s actually the human's fault.

The main cause of this problem is urban sprawl. Urban sprawl is when homes pop out of places where wildlife lives. They expand and the animals and plants lose some water and land. That is causing the animals to leave their home and are forced to live in human areas. Each year, about two million acres of open space are turned into housing, roads and buildings. As a result, we will see more wild animals in our living space.

The result of urban sprawl is very bad. Animals and plants will become extinct or endangered because they will lose their water and land and they won’t have enough food to survive. They also can be a problem for our daily life. Animals can eat our garden, bite electricity cords to cause power failure or even fire, cause car accidents, and can possibly hurt people. In conclusion, urban sprawl can be bad for both organisms and humans.

There are many solutions to urban sprawl. People can consider animals and plants by changing the way humans build new communities. Humans can build tunnels and bridges to let animals cross the road safely in peoples’ new communities. Deer and other animals have also been protected by nature- friendly building projects. People can also work for the Wildlife Conservation Society. Furthermore, we can build new habitats where wildlife can be preserved by giving them a space to grow and adapt. Humans can stop urban sprawl by using those great solutions.

In conclusion, animals coming into our backyards are becoming worse and worse and urban sprawl is the main cause of this problem. The consequence of it can be very bad, so we must take action right now.
