About Zongzi

Dragon Boat Festival is my favorite traditional Chinese festival. It is held to remember Qu Yuan. We have dragon boat racing and dragon dance to celebrate the festival. We eat zongzi during the festival.

Do you know how to make zongzi? Well, I will tell you how my mom does it. Firstly, Mom soaks sticky rice and bamboo leaves and marinates the pork belly overnight. Secondly, Mom prepares everything and puts it on a table—- wipes and cuts the bamboo leaves, fries the sticky rice with soy sauce, and prepares pork belly and yolks. The third step is to wrap zongzi, Mom folds two bamboo leaves to form a cone, then fills it with rice, pork belly, and yolk, then presses firmly, finishes wrapping, and ties it up with string. Last, Mom cooks it for four hours. Time to eat!

There are two kinds of zongzi, one is sweet made of beans and dates, the other is salty made of meat and yolk. I personally like salty ones. There are several reasons. Firstly, I don't like sweets, it is too greasy. Secondly, the salty zongzi has rice, meat, and yolk, it is nutritious. Last but not least, I like the taste of the salty zong zi, I like yolk. I like sticky rice with meat and the smell of bamboo leaves. It’s very delicious. That’s why I like salty Zongzi better.
