About Myth

Myth is not a scientific reflection of real life, but a result of human beings' beginning to think and explore nature and combining their imagination in ancient times. It shows people’s reverence to gods. Most of them are religious myths and folk myths. Persephone is about the girl Persephone has to be Hades's wife, her mother helps her get out. The twelve labors of Hercules is about Hera hate Hercules so she wants to use 12 labor to kill him, but Hercules done all of them. All stories are Anansi's is about Anansi wanting to be the owner of all the stories, the god Nyame gives him three laborers. He did them and was the owner. All of the three stories are folk myths.

In the myths, main characters, goddesses and the gods usually have some relationship. The main character sometimes has a relationship with the goddess and the god. In Persephone, Persephone is the main character, and she has a relationship with another one Hades. The goddess and the god are both main characters. In the twelve labors of Hercules, the main character is Hercules, and he has a relationship with Zeus and Alcmena, and they are the main god and goddess throughout the story. In the Anansi, the spider Anansi has a relationship with Nyame, a guide and seeker. The relationship between them sometimes is the story line, the relationship can be complex sometimes.

Among the three stories, the common theme is to keep alert. Keeping alert is what the victim missed. In Persephone, she isn’t alert to look out of danger, then Hades catches her. But absolutely that’s not the main reason. In all the stories are Anansi’s, the three creatures aren't alert on his trap and what he said, they are too arrogant when fighting, so they are trapped. In the twelve labors of Hercules, many of the creatures in it think that Hercules is weak and they’re not alert, they are also caught by Hercules. Nessus believes Hercules so easily, and he has to do the boring work that he hates the most. All of them from the three stories have the same problem, that is they aren’t alert to danger. In any condition, keeping alert is necessary or it may happen that we don’t want to happen.

Because of the differences in the production and lifestyle and values of the origin of Chinese mythology and other myths, the representative values of the two myths are also different. Chinese myths are more about the whole and selfless dedication, while other myths are more about the individual and the secular. Most gods and goddesses in Chinese mythology are half human and half animal, such as Nvwa. They are fierce in face but good in heart. The gods in Greek mythology have the characteristics of human beings. Hades is one of the evil characters. The creatures in the 12 labors and the three things are evil. Some is decency, such as Anansi and Hercules. Thematically, the two are different because of a number of factors.

In the myth, the plot goes with the relationship, and most is the god and goddess, it can be the story line. Different stories can have the same theme, stories aren’t individual, they can connect with each other. Persephone and the twelve labors of Hercules are connective. Because of different regions, myths are different throughout the world. Religious myths are totally different. In China, it shows people’s hope of being better, and in others, especially Greek, are complex. There are the irony and discontentment of power and the yearning for a better life. They are different but they are all the explanation people explain the world. It’s a kind of humans’ wisdom in the past.
