The story Sarah Plain and Tall written by Patricia Maclachlan talks about a girl named Anna. She has a brother called Caleb. Their mother died after the day Caleb was born. They were lonely. Loneliness means someone that doesn't have a companion or something. That sometimes makes this person lonely. If you are lonely, that means you could make yourself sad or mad. It means sadness because one has no friends or company. But it can change if you try to get a company or someone that could make you happy. For example dogs, when you are sad or mad, the dog could feel it and it will always come to calm you down and make you happy.
In the story, a girl named Sarah was lonely. Sarah missed her home and she misses her brother William that lives in Maine which is on the other side of the country. She had to fly across the country and leave the sea, her brother, and her home just to come and make their lives happy. She is a good person and said she will stay if she thinks the life there is good. But if it’s not, she will fly back to the sea in Maine. But she might stay because she likes her life there for now but she doesn't know how she will feel in the future.
In this story, the papa named Jacob was really lonely because his wife died. We know that he is lonely because he doesn't even sing anymore. He doesn’t have the feelings to sing anymore. He really misses his wife and wished that she never ever even died. His wife died and he doesn’t sing anymore. He is sad that his wife died and now, he only has his kids and he doesn't want to lose them. He also really wants to give the kids a new mother and himself a new wife to be happy instead of lonely.
In this story, the kids are also lonely. They lost their mother. Caleb is lonely because he has never seen his mother. He doesn't have one. Anna forgot to say goodbye to her mother that night. They are both sad. They are also lonely and really want a new mom so that they would live like a long time ago again and just have a perfect family with a dad, a mom and a sibling. They would just get a good and happy family without anyone feeling lonely. But right now, all of them are lonely and they want a mom just like before to make them happy.
