Human nature the general psychological characteristics, feelings, and behavioural traits of humankind, regarded as shared by all humans. There are two sides of human nature, a bright side and a dark side. The dark side of human nurture is greed and the hatred of ugliness by being judgmental. For example, in the novel The monkey’s paw, the White family were greedy because even when they had everything a family ever needed, they still wanted more than what they already had. Another example would be the elephant man. Joseph Merrick was hated and screamed at by people almost all the time nearly every second for what? Just because he was deformed, doesn’t mean people should treat him this harshly, but then again this is just a part of human nature. On the other hand, the bright side of human nature is how people still have sympathy. For example, Dr. Treves was the first person to treat Joseph like a human being.
The darkness of human nature is mainly greed which means the verge of wanting more. For example, in the novel The monkey's paw, the White’s family were greedy as even after having everything a family needs, they still want more than what they already have. But the worst part is that everyone would want more, the reason is simply because it is a part of human nature and no matter what humans will alway have the desire for more than what they already have. It isn’t always the worst but being greedy isn’t good because sometimes, money doesn’t buy happiness when you lose the people you truly love. For example, Mr. and Mrs. White finally realised that after losing their precious son, but it was too late, life would no longer be the same. Even having a lot of money, they couldn't buy their son back. The White family lost a family member just because they were greedy and couldn’t appreciate what they already have.
The bright side of human nature is sympathy and learning to correct our mistakes. For example in the novel The elephant man, Dr. Treves had changed a man's life by showing kindness and sympathy. He had given Joseph a better life, instead of benefiting from him, Dr. Treves actually cared about him and treated him like a normal human being. This didn’t just change Joseph's life, it had changed many people's faith. When others visited Joseph they learned the feeling of empathy and learned to treat others the way they actually deserved to be treated like. Another example was when the Mr. White decided to fix his mistake by wishing for his son to disappear. Even though it must have been really hard for him, he still decided to do the right thing as he knew if didn’t he would feel the guilt. Not only that but unlike Mrs. White, Mr. White learned his lesson and knew that he couldn’t use the monkey's paw. That is the bright side of human nature.
The cause of human nature is when we always do what is best for ourselves. If we think about this closely, we can find out that the White family wants money because they wanted a better life for themselves. To be honest we can’t really blame them as if you were in the same situation you would probably choose the same option as it is undeniable everyone wants the best for themselves. For example, nearly everyone thinks of themselves as the main character in a movie, the problem is that they are just a side character in someone else's perspective. This is the cause of human nature, wanting to be better than others. If you put it in other words, it basically means jealousy. Everyone in this world is jealous of somebody else and if you're trying to deny that then you're not telling the truth to yourself. This is the cause of human nature.
