The story The Monkey's Paw talks about the White family, they were cheated by Morris and bought a monkey’s paw. Because of their curiosity, they have a wish and the people who Mr. White love died, this makes him very sad. The Elephant Man talks about a man that looks ugly being hated by everyone, one day a doctor came, he was curious about Merrick and he became his caring people, they became friends then, but Merrick died in a night. In both story, they all talks about the darkness in the world, but for the Whites, they have a wish of money because they want get their life get better, in China we call it 锦上添花. But in The Elephant Man, people hate Merrick because of his body, he didn’t do any bad things to them, even his friend Dr. Treves, his first feeling about him is curious not pity.

Like a sunny day, the brightness with human nature is promising and open and aboveboard. There is nothing bad in the beginning of human’s nature, as long as one is taught well, there will be no problem. In the two texts, although the brightness will be late but won’t be missed. In the story, although Morris didn’t tell the Whites the Monkey’s Paw can cause death, he told them there will be trouble. He actually gives the Whites a choice, if they have a wish, their family will die, if they don't, it will happen. In the text, Dr. Treves first thinks Merrick was curious, but they become friends then, and Dr. Treves helps Merrick make friends. In The Elephant Man, Treves didn’t give very bad feelings, although he was curious about Merrick's body, but he followed his heart and did the right thing. In conclusion, the two stories talk about the bright and the good in human nature.

Like a moonless night, the darkness within human nature is vast and impenetrable, concealing instincts that reason and ethics strive, but often fail to suppress. In the two stories, they all talk about the darkness of human nature. It was very serious about it. For example, in the story The Monkey’s Paw, Morris sold the Monkey’s Paw to the Whites in the beginning of the story. He knows that the Monkey’s Paw can be caught dead but he just said there will be a little trouble. For the Whites, although Morris didn’t talk a lot about it, he still said there would be trouble. In The Elephant Man, most people hated Merrick because of his body. It was really bad, they didn’t feel Merrick’s feelings. It was hard to hide our feelings of darkness from our heart, but the characters in the books shouldn’t be mean to others. In conclusion, the two stories talk about the darkness from the characters.

The two stories talk about the Darkness and the Brightness about human nature, but they are the cause of them. Human nature is bad and bright, we do something mostly because of our place from morality or self-interest. In the two stories, the humans do the bad things because of their feelings of laziness. The characters don’t want to do any things and get the place and things they want, like Ross. Self interest was important to them too, Ross and the Whites do the things because it can give them more benefit. In the stories, Treves was doing his ambition, and he was sympathetic to others, he didn’t laugh at Merrick about his body. Morris, Ross don’t have empathy, they know the things they do can make other’s family be bad but they still do it. People do things for a reason. In China there is a people name Lu Xun (鲁迅)he said that “可怜之人必有可恨之处,可恨之人必有可悲之苦。” Lu Xuan’s words clearly point out the sinister and pessimistic nature of human beings. In conclusion, these two stories talk clearly about human nature.

In conclusion, the two stories mostly talk about human nature, they let us see clearly about the darkness and brightness of human nature. One is talking about a family being bothered by the Monkey’s Paw, one is talking about a ugly man that is hated by others for no reason. There are kind people like Treves and Merrick, Treves don’t have any bad feelings for Merrick, this makes Merrick very happy with him and tell him his feelings. Merrick was really kind too, his complete lack of bitterness toward the world or his fellowmen. Despite the severity of his handicaps, despite the brutal treatment he received from strangers and acquaintances, he never showed anger or hostility. Rather, he impressed people with his meekness and generosity. There are humans that bad live Morris and Ross, they use human’s feelings to make them buy something or hate something. But we need know that everythings have reason Ross was bad, but maybe Morris had felt something same as Mr. White, he sold the monkey’s paw to the White’s by no choice.
