Discrimination is the act of treating people unfairly because of one main thing that they have as a person, or even multiple characteristics that cause them to be treated differently than everyone else. In the three stories, “Madame C.J Walkers”, “The Scribe”, and “Primary Lessons”, talks about people being discriminated for their characteristics, and this is unfair for them, because they get to miss chances that they could have, but people discriminate against them. Madame C.J Walkers, talks about a woman, who is an African American and when set free, was poor, she was discriminated against by other people, but soon became rich with hair products she had in her dream, and made. The Scribe talks about a boy, who sees people who cannot read and have to pay for people to read them, so he makes a free stand for reading. Primary Lessons, talks about a girl in a new school, and she overhears teachers talking about a boy in her class and makes fun of him, for being poor, and a different color, and takes the girl in more pride, even though the boy works really hard, but she doesn’t work hard, because her father is in the military, and she used to live in New York.
One common one still used sometimes today is discrimination of poverty. Discrimination of poverty is when people are mean to poor people, just because they don’t have money like them, even though it does not matter, because they are equal, even though they have less, we are still equal. In the Scribe, people are poor, but not in their time but in the past, because they cannot read, they did not get enough education and you need money for education, this is saying that they were poor when they were younger. Madame C.J Walker was also poor, because she was a slave before she was set free by the law, and then she had no money, and barely anything, no parents, but just a sister. In Primary Lessons, Lorenzo, the boy, is discriminated against for not having money, so he cannot get proper clothes and is laughed at by the teachers, because he is poor. It does not matter if you are poor or not, everyone's the same, so you should never discriminate against people.
Racial discrimination, is when people treat other people unfairly just by their looks and appearances. Racial discrimination started in the late 1700’s and ended in 1964. In the two stories “Madame C.J Walkers” and “Primary Lessons”, they both show racial discrimination, of people because of their color. In Madame C.J Walker, when she was younger she was a slave because of her color, and because her parents were slaves, and once her parents died, and she was sent free, with her sister, there were really no restraints or even work places where they could get money for themselves, and feed themselves. This was because of racial discrimination and the Jim Crow law, which made African American people be able to go to limited restaurants and work, which should already be almost full. In Primary Lessons it talks about the teachers, discriminating against Lorenzo for his color, because they say “a fly drowned in a glass of milk” or he is the odd one out, because he is a different color than everyone else. This is all from racial discrimination, because the teachers are mean to him, for being the odd one out. They also say that “He is a funny negrito” which means that he is different from anyone because he is a different color. This is the racial discrimination of the two stories Madame C.J Walker.
Gender discrimination the act of people treating other people unfairly because of their gender, this is also known as being sexist to women, because boys can be discriminating against girls. Even though we are the same and regular people, people still think they are high above because of their gender. In the story Madame C.J Walker it talks about her being discriminated against not only because she is poor and has a different color, it is also because she is a woman. In the story Madame C.J Walker is discriminated against by everyone and is laughed at because she is a woman. This also leads to being discriminated against by other people so she cannot get a job, because she is a woman. No one believed in her when she was gonna make her own company, because she is a women, and they think that men is above her so she will not get workers, because no man would want to work with her, below her, but they were wrong, because women started come and work for her, and her company grew big. No man is better than a woman because we all are the same even though they think they are better they are not.
Discrimination, is the act of treating people unfairly because they are different from others, like they are a different color, but we all are the same, but people believe they are above, but they really are not. Discrimination of poverty is when people make fun of the poor, this also deals with education because you need money for education, because school needs money for teachers and the outfits. In the scribe, people cannot read so they buy a free scribe, because people are taking advantage of them and they must pay money. Racial discrimination is also a big popularity, this is when people are making other people because of their appearances. Like in Primary Lessons the teachers make fun of Lorenzo because he is different from the others, and do not pick him because he is different, even though he is really good at the stuff. Finally there is gender discrimination where people are mean to other people, because of their gender, and they think that they are better. In Madame C.J Walker, she is discriminated against by the people because she is a woman and the men think they are better than her. Discrimination is bad and we should never do it ever again, because everyone is the same no matter what they are or who they are.
