About Choice

Choice plays a major role in the four stories of "Greyling," "Scholarship Jacket," "Stray," and "Eleven. In "Greyling '' the fisherman's wife has to make the choice if the son would go save the fisherman, or let the fisherman die. In Scholarship Jacket the characters face a choice between honesty and her dreams for her grades to be good. In Stray it portrays the choice of kindness and how the girl is compassionate to the dog. In Eleven the narrator makes a choice of being silent to the teacher than telling the teacher she is wrong. The stories of "Greyling," "Scholarship Jacket," "Stray," and "Eleven" tell you that the choices we make impact our lives. Through the choices made by the characters.Like how in Greyling the wife has to make a choice between the son or the fisherman. Or like how in Stray the parents have to make the choice between being kind and keeping the dog to keep Doris happy but struggles in poverty, or they can not keep the dog and won’t struggle. The readers were reminded that the power of choice is ultimate to shaping our futures and define us as individuals. These stories give us a reminder that every small choice we make, no matter how small the choice is, has the potential to influence the world around us.

In life, the theme of choice often reveals itself in difficult and sometimes embarrassing situations. In the story of Greyling, the wife has to face the prisoner's dilemma. Which means she is in a situation about knowing everything but couldn't make the right choice. knowing that asking her son to save her husband would mean losing him to the sea. Just like in the Scholarship Jacket, MArtha's situation reflects how harsh the reality of poverty is. The family are unable to afford the $15 fee to claim her well deserved jacket. Just like how Stray shows us that we can't make other additional choices.Doris's parents were poor. Doris wants the dig but the parents couldn't afford to adopt the dog. The family struggles enough to keep them healthy. In Eleven shows how Rachel faced a challenging situation, and felt powerless to refuse her teacher's request due to the authority they have in school. The four stories Greyling, Scholarship Jacket, Stray, and Eleven emphasize that while we may appear to have choices, many choices are actually limited because of our circumstances. It highlights how harsh the reality of life is that they challenge and have an impact on our decision making.

Choices can truly define a person's virtue and morality. In life we will make a lot of choices but they are different. Sometimes we can make positive choices which can make us happy. While we make negative choices too which can make us sad. For positive choices some people can make even it is difficult for them. Like in the story stray, The parents do recognize the dog is very good and they want to keep the dog. Doris's parents know the circumstances, they understand the desire their daughter wants to keep the dog. However the limited resources they have can't let them make any choice but to give the dog to the pound, but Dad adopted the dog even though they are poor. In The Scholarship Jacket The principal decided to make an exemption for Martha, meaning she could get the jacket by paying.some people can have correct choices but they don't so this makes it a negative example for choices. In Greyling the morality of the fisherman and wife made the mistake at the beginning of the story by adopting the kid.The story Eleven shows the power of the teacher. The teacher should have apologized to Rachel for doing wrong to her but she chose to pretend nothing happened. In Scholarship Jacket the school board's choice to change the rule started the unfairness already, it doesn't matter whether the principal made an exception or not.

Making choices can be tough, especially when you're faced with unexpected problems at unexpected times. When someone is poor, they cannot make many choices, especially the ones they want to make. In the story of "Stray" Doris and her family face the cruel reality of poverty, so many choices cannot be afforded by them. In the story "Greyling," the theme of morality is when  the fisherman and his wife must make a difficult decision when they find a mysterious child washed ashore. Despite feeling hesitant about keeping the child, they choose to raise him as their own. In Eleven Rachel feels when she is eleven the feeling of weight comes to her. It talks about how Rachel grows up and makes choices eleven time.In "The Scholarship Jacket," the theme of poverty and morality is shown through Martha's struggle to obtain the jacket. Martha's struggle to afford things shows how poor she is.

The four stories teach us that we can make choices but there are good and bad. When we make choices we have to beware if we are poor or not. Because sometimes we cannot make additional choices in our lives.Like in a stray , the father knows that they are poor. But when he knew that the puppy would be killed when it would not be adopted, the father took it back and adopted him. IN the Scholarship Jacket Martha is poor and has to make a choice of paying $15 or not. In Eleven Rachel did not argue with the teacher because the teacher has authority in the school. But the teacher didn't make the choice of apologizing to Rachel. In Greyling the fisherman and his wife made the wrong CHoice at the first part of the story by adopting a stranger's child .Overall, these stories offer valuable lessons on the significance of choices in shaping character, impacting others, and reflecting us about making choices. We learned how to make the correct choices in the stories.
