About Boomtown

A boomtown is a community that undergoes sudden and rapid population and economic growth, or that is started from scratch. The growth is normally attributed to the nearby discovery of a precious resource such as gold, silver, or oil. Although the term can also be applied to communities growing very rapidly for different reasons, such as proximity to a major metropolitan area, huge construction projects, or attractive climate. Either, a town that grows rapidly due to new business opportunities becomes known as a boomtown, which becomes larger and larger.

The discovery of gold in California territory not only aroused national interest, but also attracted global attention. When gold was discovered in 1848, California was not yet a state. There are almost no regulations regarding treasure hunting. The gold is right there. Adventurers risked all risks and came in thousands. The cities of Sacramento, Stockton and San Francisco expanded from small villages to large and active towns almost overnight. A town that has rapidly developed due to new business opportunities is called an emerging town.

It can be argued that boomtown is a good place to live. To illustrate, boomtown has a lot of resources where you can find oil, silver, or even gold. When you live in boomtown, you can dig and find some resources that you can sell and get money from the resources. Apart from this, you can easily earn money in boomtown. For example, in San-Francisco, there are no stores where you can open one and then it will boom, because there are no stores so everyone will come to your store and buy the things. Last but not the least, boomtown has a lot of opportunities. In conclusion, I firmly believe that boomtown is a good place to live.

Aloughth I think boomtown is a good place to live, there are still disadvantages. Generally, boomtowns are places of economic prosperity and social chaos, because the local culture and infrastructure (if any) are difficult to adapt to the wave of new residents. General issues related to this rapid growth may include a shortage of doctors, inadequate medical and/or educational facilities, housing shortages, sewage treatment issues, and a lack of recreational activities for new residents.

Due to the continuous push for fossil fuel extraction, more boomtowns are created constantly. In turn, researchers and psychologists have gained interest in the social changes of boomtowns at different scales and locations. Some boomtowns may be as large as in the Bakken Shale Oil Basin of North Dakota or as small as villages located near Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Most studies typically find one common conclusion: all boomtowns must not depend on just one energy development but other diversified sources of income to avoid a bust.
